ASTS LEADERS AND RIDERS

Jackie, Ron,and I were informed that Metronorth is closely monitoring our train usage this weekend.  Instructions were given to the train crews to count heads on the return trains from Peekskill.  Obviously, this does not account for unaffiliated cyclists, but we'll deal with that if we encounter it.

A full report on my first lap of the year

Time: April 2, 6:20PM

Place: Central Park

West 78th. Four people are standing in the middle of the road. Standing. In the middle. In front of them, with his back to bicycle traffic is a man. Standing. In the middle. He has a camera. He is posing his subjects. He is framing them very carefully. All the while standing in the middle of the road. With his back to oncoming traffic.

Best way to get from Beacon to Peekskill?

Submitted by MHiller on Thu, 04/02/2015 - 5:22pm

How is 9D coming south from Beacon into Cold Spring? I've driven it once or twice, and I don't remember great shoulders, and perhaps a scary tunnel through Breakneck Ridge?

South to Garrison from there looks fine, and then I'd probably use 403/Cat Rock Road to get up to Route 9.

Alternately, would it be better from Beacon to go northeast into Fishkill, and pick up Route 9 southbound there? I notice that this is the official NYS bicycle route 9 routing in that part of Putnam.

Thanks!

2015 Ghost Bike Ride - save the date! 4/19

Submitted by Batuwu Griekgriek on Wed, 04/01/2015 - 8:48am
Hi all

Just wanted to give a heads up for this annual ride which covers the five boroughs to pay respects to riders who died in the previous year.  2015 marks the tenth anniversary of Street Memorials' rides in NYC, so if you've never done one of these, this is a good one to get in on.

The ride will be Sunday, April 19.  There are several rides running simultaneously in each borough, and they have different starting times between 9 AM and 12 noon. All rides converge around 4:30 PM on the final bike; this year that will be near city hall.

Nice piece in the New Yorker on Steve Fulop, the cyclist and somewhat quixotic mayor of Jersey City: http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2015/04/06/iron-mayor

Hudson Terrace Milling and Paving

There was a sign today indicating that milling and paving of Hudson Terrace--presumably from where they stopped it last year up to Palisade Avenue, will start on or about April 13th.
