Issues setting up Velocity A23 tubeless

Submitted by Cmoore on Fri, 02/19/2016 - 12:37pm

Hi, I'm trying to set up a pair of Terravail Galena's (designed for tubeless) on my A23s, and really having a diffcult time with seating the bead the first time, even with gas station compressor and a good bit of  very sudsy soapy water lubricating the bead. I've got two passes of Velotape (pressed down well w plastic tire layers, getting all air bubbles out, etc) and Velocity valvestems w the delrin washers installed. I have had the wheel laying horizontally on the ground, as I've read is one of two ways to get it set. Can't seem to get that bead to pop for anything.

Rust stains on jersey?

Submitted by EJacobs on Tue, 02/16/2016 - 2:20am

Dear all,

The safety pins for the bib number on a recent event I did rusted (clearly not stainless steel!) and left tiny pin-sized rust stains on three of my light colored jerseys. They have been through the wash-- but not the dryer.

I googled how to get rid of rust stains, and the consensus seems to be acid, but application of a 1% and then 5% acetic acid solutions did nothing.

Does anyone have suggestions for getting rid of them? (The stains, not the jersys.) I'd be very grateful.

Thanks in advance,

-Erica

Cold enough for you?

"These are the times that try men's souls."

If you have reached that certain age in life where you contemplate lowering your standards, deep winter is an affirmation of point of view. With aging,  your performance falls short of expectation. Logic leads you to accept diminished results. If you've done your homework, pushing harder only puts you in the red zone. It is why no one in their 50s competes in endurance sports against the overall field.

Winter dulls the keenest blade. Youth in its prime will slog it out with natural limits and come home with a bloody nose against the conditions of this day. More rational elders will reason out why not to subject oneself to nature's withering fire.

carbon bike refinishing

Submitted by WIEGAND on Sun, 02/14/2016 - 3:21pm

My 10-year-old Serotta, with carbon seatstays and fork, needs refinishing. Serotta and its last incarnation are gone. I'm told Calfee, in California, is THE place, but it would take a week each way just to ship it at ground rates, adding to the time my only road bike is gone. So I'd like to know what shop other members recommend for this job, preferrably one that's local, or failing that, not more than one or two days ground shipping away.

A stationary bike can be a wonderful thing

A bike without wheels is almost a zen concept. You don't actually go anywhere but there is a journey. And stronger for it all.
