Hit by Bicycle Delivery Man - suggestions please!

Submitted by rubyrocket on Thu, 07/07/2016 - 9:44am

I was hit by a bicyclist from a nearby restaurant in Union Square.  My left knee is a mess.  I didn't call 911, but called the restaurant to report it when I got back to my office.  I also called two police precincts to see about filling out an accident report.  Both told me instead that I should fill out an Motor Vehicle Accident Report (MV-104).  I went to my orthopedist that afternoon.  X-rays didn't show much, and I have an MRI on Saturday.

If anyone has any other suggestions on next steps, I'd very much appreciate hearing them.  Thank you!

"Cycling and the Law 102" at our next NYCC meeting on July 12th

Submitted by EWeiss on Wed, 07/06/2016 - 1:26pm

Dear Members,

No one wants to be stopped by the police and certainly we all dread getting into a crash with a motor vehicle. However, we need to know what to do to protect ourselves and our friends, should either of these unfortunate events happen.  Everyone in this club knows you're supposed to ride with traffic and put lights on at night, that's Cycling Law 101. This presentation on Cycling and the Law 102 is going to provide state-of-the-art, advanced legal advice in five areas of cycling law as listed below:

NY Times Well: The Surprising Health Benefits of an Electric Bike

Submitted by HSchiffman on Wed, 07/06/2016 - 8:04am

I wonder if the distant future will see the use of electric bikes in the NYCC.

This article implies that they might be a gateway into purely human powered cycling, as well as a means of minimal exercise for those who can do no more. The NYCC is a big tent. The question is, how big?

Evening CP Laps

Submitted by seantpolley on Wed, 07/06/2016 - 7:54am

Would anyone be interested in joining a B18/A19 riders for evenings laps in CP?

We will depart from 75th/5th at 8pm sharp.

Ideally we would limit this group to 4-5 as we'd be sharing the roads with runners, walkers, and strollers.

Pesticides on RR this morning - when will it be clear?

Submitted by knitandthecity on Wed, 07/06/2016 - 7:16am

They were spraying for pesticides on RR this morning. Lots of cyclists just carried on even though the road was closed (not just a barricade but an actual sign that said No Bicycles or pedestrians). RR isn't my normal training grounds - so I just turned around.

How long do they close RR for spraying? Should it be ok tomorrow morning?

Looking for a Few Early Morning Cyclists

Submitted by JOlson on Mon, 07/04/2016 - 7:24pm

Seeking a few cyclists for weekday early morning rides around Central Park two or three times a week, or occasionally a ride up or down the Greenway. This is NOT a Club ride, so NYCC insurance will NOT apply, and cyclists need not be members.

We will ride at about an NYCC C13/C14 and do two laps (+/- 12 miles), starting between 6:00 am and 7:30 am, and the whole ride should take about an hour. Meeting at the East 72nd Street and Fifth Avenue entrance to the Park would be the most convenient, but anybody can join or drop at any point.

With two or three cyclists in total, we will need to confirm the evening before that at least two can meet in the morning; if we grow into a regular larger group, we can apply to make this a Club ride.
