Hasn't snowed in a while, but I can imagine there are maybe 900 other ways it's not ready for spring yet, so I figured I'd ask

B15 Central Park Laps CANCELLED

Submitted by GRoss on Thu, 03/02/2017 - 4:22am

It's too windy for safe riding. B15 Morning laps in Central Park is cancelled.

This evening Christy, Jody and I got to meet and talk to the new CP Precinct Commanding Officer Captain Peter Andrea at the Central Park Precinct Community Council meeting.

Captain Andrea expressed his interest in taking a reasonable approach towards red-light enforcement for cyclists and pedestrians. Flagrant violations that create unsafe situations would not be acceptable, but he saw little need to ticket cyclists for prudently going through red-lights when it would be safe to do so. He seemed to be open to having a dialogue in the future should any specific issues arise.

Statements by a racist on bike lane usage.

Ann Darby, the longest-serving member of Queens Community Board 4 said at a Tuesday night board meeting on proposed bike lanes for 111th Street that soon, once the feds round up all the city's undocumented immigrants, there will be no more need for bike lanes in NYC. She based her comments on the bizarre stereotype that only immigrants ride bicycles.

I hate my saddle

Submitted by ninagski on Tue, 02/28/2017 - 6:39pm

Does anyone know of a shop that offers saddle demos?  I purchased what I thought was going to work for me based on a 10 min trainer ride, but after spending all last season trying to "get used to it," I'm finally throwing in the towel.  I need a new saddle.

Thanks in advance!

International Bicycle Shipping

Submitted by vinlaw on Tue, 02/28/2017 - 5:18pm

I know this subject has already received pretty extensive treatment on the MB but I just received two quotes for round tripping a bike from NYC to Ireland, from LuggageFree and BikeFlights. Each one came in around the $1K mark without tax. Seems a bit much. Has anybody shipped bikes internationally for cheaper?

Thanks.
