I was riding with my wife and she lost her plastic wallet with her NY drivers license and a credit card.

card is cancelled, but if anyone here see it, please let me know.

we think it was in front of the police dept, we stopped to get water and she checked her phone, and probably the documents fell off.

her name is Marcia Lunardi

Gran Fondo NJ - Join Team NYCC before July 1, 2017 and save!

Submitted by EWeiss on Wed, 06/21/2017 - 12:26pm
Dear Members:

For those of you who have not as yet registered and joined Team NYCC at Gran Fondo NJ (GFNJ), now would be an opportune time to do so, as both registration prices increase and the team discount decreases on July 1st. I have the privilege of captaining Team NYCC at GFNJ for the second straight year. This is the best organized, most beautiful and challenging one day ride/event in which I have ever participated. The after-party/festival has delicious food, with a large array of numerous selections and free beer. I have had the pleasure of doing the 62 mile route for each of the last 5 years, and frankly, it is the ride that I target every year. GFNJ will be held on Sunday, September 10th in Morristown, NJ.

9W Cleanup and C rides

Submitted by GRoss on Wed, 06/21/2017 - 10:14am

We're doing the 9W cleanup on Sunday, June 25. I haven't posted anything earlier due to preoccupation with the 3 club ride the day before. Also, James Gilbert and the NYCC Racing Team have 20 people showing up for the cleanup so we have it pretty well covered.

James will be posting a C ride for the cleanup so if some of you want a nice relaxed ride to The Market, this will be your chance, and an opportunity to ride with one of our USA Cycling Category 2 or 3 racers. Maybe he'll show you how to bunny hop your bike on the way there! Or pick up a water bottle from the ground while riding.

"Training for Optimal Performance" presentation from NYCC monthly meeting

Submitted by aleone on Wed, 06/21/2017 - 7:40am

Thanks to everyone that came out for the NYCC monthly meeting last week.  We hope you enjoyed the presentation on training for optimal performance.

Here is a link to the presentation that was used so people can have a look at some of the charts and writing that may have been a little too small to see from afar.

President's Message, "Masters of the Universe"

Submitted by CGuzzetta on Tue, 06/20/2017 - 10:52am

I don't know why my first posting above got so jumbled, hope this version is readable.

I often have a “President’s Message” on the carousel of the main page of our Club’s website.  I try and post a new message each month.  The June’s President’s Message is on the carousel right now.  For whatever reason, I am posting it here as well.  It is titled, “Masters of the Universe”;

The first part of our 2017 cycling season has concluded.

It started the second Tuesday in February with the SIG membership meeting.

It ended on Memorial Day weekend in the Berkshires.

Bent Spoke -- Safe to Ride on It?

Submitted by CBrown on Mon, 06/19/2017 - 5:58pm

Noticed that one of the spokes on my rear wheel was bent a little bit -- about 2 inches down from the nipple.  Is that an unsafe condition, necessitating a replacement of the spoke, or is it ok to keep riding on it as long as the wheel stays true?

The spokes are the heavy duty double-butted ones, intended to stand up to our not-smooth city streets, and there are 28 of them on a HED Belgium wheel with a DT Swiss hub, if that matters.

Any thoughts?

Craig

There is a new overpass being built on the NJ side of the GWB.  (an existing one is being replaced.)

The plastic barricades that narrow the sidewalk on the NJ side of the GWB are not short term!  They will be there well into 2018 or beyond as I have been told by a worker!

This is a dangerously narrow section.  1) We need an extra foot all along.  2) there should be no carelessly placed barricades that create a narrower pinch point.  3)  there seems to be plenty of space on the other side for construction vehicles such that one more foot for us will not be an issue.

Can whoever has the ear of the Port Authority please convey this information.
