AC/clavicle repair surgery? - please share

Submitted by adamaston on Tue, 10/03/2017 - 8:22pm

Hi friends, I had a spill last Saturday, and suffered a torn AC joint (clavicle)*  separation, grade 3+, ~100% displacement. I'm on the border between surgery now or rehab first then possibly surgery. Surgery sooner offers a potentially better outcome. I'm hunting for other riders who had this procedure. Would love to know what your recovery was like? How long? How much pain? Potentially might give you a call, time permitting. Thanks for your time! Adam   *Not ACL in the knee

Submitted by lbpnyc on Tue, 10/03/2017 - 2:37pm

Hello there -

Is anyone thinking about leading or doing a B15 or B16 level ride this Sunday, October 8th? I am looking for company to do approx 45- 60 miles at a 15 or 16mph pace. Prefer minimal train travel, leave around 8am; return around 2pm.

Thanks,

Lisa

Dear members,

Le Ride-the movie

Submitted by RRGilbert on Mon, 10/02/2017 - 9:00pm

I have asked them for a discount for us.   Let’s see what they say.

LE RIDE follows Phil Keoghan and his friend Ben Cornell as they attempt to recreate the original route of the 1928 Tour de France. Averaging 240km a day for 26 days, Phil and Ben traverse both the unforgiving mountains of the Pyrenees and the Alps, on original vintage steel racing bikes with no gears and marginal brakes. SCREENING NOV 9TH 6:30PM. Tickets: https://us.demand.film/le-ride/

Notice received from the outreach team from the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge.

Rally for a Protected Fifth Avenue - Tuesday, Oct. 10 at 6:15

Submitted by HSchachter on Sun, 10/01/2017 - 4:38pm

At a recent community board meeting, DOT made it clear that it envisions creating no new  pedestrian or cyclist safety features in this year's infrastructure work on Fifth Avenue in midtown Manhattan. Right now Fifth Avenue is a dangerous street that needs a protected bicycle lane and pedestrian-safety features. Transportation Alternatives is sponsoring a rally and protest on Fifth avenue and Fiftieth Street at 6:15  pm on Tuesday, October 10. Please come out and help make the city safer for all folks who bike and walk.

Don't you think the PA could allow us use of the path, at least on weekends, so long as there is no apparatus or materials obstructing the path since there is no work on weekends?

What a classy bunch of people are cyclists. At two points in the crossing today I extended 37 riders, well, climbers, coming towards me the courtesy of waiting...and waiting...and waiting for them when I might very well have inserted myself into the openings. And it was apparent to all of them that is what I was doing. So how many said "thank you"? 1.

Lights out in Central Park / outreach

Submitted by edeuser on Sat, 09/30/2017 - 3:32pm

There have been quite a few street lights out in the park recently. Seems like for the latter part of the season about 30-50% of the lights have been out between, say, Tavern and Harlem hill.  Maybe my memory is not serving me but it seems worse than in prior years, and if you ask me dangerous for pedestrians, runners and cyclists alike (even if you ride with a decent light).

Is there anyone we/the club can reach out to at either CP Conservancy or Parks Dept to find out what the issue is and when/if it's planned to be resolved? Or perhaps the subject has already been broached with them? If not I am happy to volunteer to spearhead this effort, just need some guidance on where to start.  Thanks.
