Weekday Evening rides?
Hi all,
I'm new to the group, and am curious if there are any unofficial group rides on weekday evenings starting from GWB going in to NJ. I'm looking for a B/15 or so pace. Thinking about starts around 6pm. Thanks for any info, and I look forward to meeting and riding with you.
Sunday Recovery Ride
After a long Saturday Ride I need a nice easygoing Sunday Recovery ride to Piermont and maybe Nyack. Meet at Grant's Tomb at 10:00 am. 917-412-9595
Thanks - The Estate Tour
Thank you to Pat for scouting such an enjoyable, beautiful ride today. I thought it was a "lyrical" ride - unusual adjective, but lyrical came to my mind when I think of one "C" shaped turn soon after the other, combined with rolling hills while breezing through narrow, mostly shaded and smooth secondary roads with their spectacular scenery. At one point, I remember looking up and there were these amazingly tall trees in front of me (which seemed out of place in the East Coast). Anyway, it was nice that there were two groups as well. The cue sheet is a keeper and it's definitely worth the train ride to Greenwich - no junk miles whatsoever. I recommend this ride to anyone who has not done it before.
MASSIVE POLICE TICKETING AT GW BRIDGE
Saturday June 16th-police giving out tix for violating. 4 unmarked police cars-believe it is a $62 tix. Officer spoke to was pleasant(No-I stopped to talk-not get a tix) He said "they warned us last year; now they are ticketing". He said the correct way to turn left; was AT the last light before the overpass(about 15-20 feet) you could get into the left lane to make our 90 degree left turn to the pedestrian walkway. HOWEVER; as most of you should realize-this is mostly impossible due to the danger to yourself it would create. It seems as though the 2 options are: 1-pull to the right and wait for a safe time to cross all 4 lanes(ummmmm) or grrrrr-go south to the next light(300- or so feet) and somehow make a l

As much as compelling a character study as a technical riff -- and that's pretty far out there.

UPDATE ON THE PARK DRIVES
The most exciting event on the Club's calendar - the Longest Day of the Year Double Half Century ride!
The most exciting event on the Club’s cycling calendar . . . many people believe it’s the SIG – thousands have participated in various SIG’s over the years. Wrong - the SIG’s not the most exciting! How ‘bout ENY? Thousands and thousands more!!!! Nope, not ENY. The Berkshires – for 30 years, the NYCC has a blast in the Berkshires over Memorial Day weekend. The Berkshires, yawn. West Point – July 4th - Rockets Red Glare. Wake me when it’s over. All these wonderful cycling events are all tied for second place. At the top of the list is undoubtedly the “Longest Day of the Year Double Half Century”. Nuumero Uno!
WARNING: Cops ticketing cyclists on NJ side of GWB
My friend and I were ticketed on the NJ side of the GWB today (along with at least 2 other cyclists). We were heading south on Hudson Terrace. Shortly before the GWB underpass we got to the left side of southbound traffic to make the left after the underpass. We were NOT salmoning. We're still trying to understand what the correct way to make that turn is. The way we understood it from the cop, we were supposed to stay all the way to the right until the turn?!?! So, um, we were supposed to make a left turn from the right lane? If possible, we're going to fight this, mostly to try to get some clarity. For the record, he was ticketing the salmoners also.
Prospect Park hill repeat question
I've been doing laps and hill repeats in Prospect Park. I've been called a "stupid salmon" more than once. (I asked salmon shouter to tell me what to do, and then tried to chase him to find out, but alas, too slow...) I am a person who NEVER goes the wrong way (except there!).
Is there a protocol for doing hill repeats in Prospect Park? What is it?
I've been going down the middle, very slowly. If I go off to the far right on the way down, I'm in the way of runners and can't see them around corners, same with cyclists on the far left. In the middle, I can see everyone, and everyone can see me. (My sister showed me how to do it, and she does it there too.)
