Need Roundtrip Route for Bridgehampton to Montauk

Submitted by Cara on Sun, 07/22/2012 - 6:12pm

Hi all,

I will be in Bridgehampton this weekend (7/27) and would like to do a 30-40 mile ride. Anyone know of a ride I can do?

Thanks in advance!

What Starts In CP Always Seems To Work Its Way To PP

Apparently there's a ticketing blitz going on in Prospect Park today.

It's naive to think that what takes place on Hudson Terrace or in Central Park doesn't eventually effect those of us who never ride there.

Britania rules the Tour. Madge is back. All in all a pretty good day.

hit and run on Wounded Warrior ride

Submitted by MGrinthal on Sun, 07/22/2012 - 11:38am

I'm trying to find news about something I saw happen on the Hamptons Wounded Warrior Soldier ride http://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/programs/soldier-ride.aspx yesterday (Saturday 7/21). I was not a participant, but I was nearby when I saw this incident. The ride was going west on route 27 in or near Amagansett. I was headed east on a solo ride. There was an intersection where a ride marshal was holding back cross traffic for the ride to pass through. Suddenly, a brown pickup blew past the marshal into the intersection and right into the middle of the ride. The marshal was running alongside the pickup, knocking on the driver side window, shouting at it to stop.

Vermont trip

Submitted by DHudes on Sun, 07/22/2012 - 7:52am

I'm taking a trip to Vermont this August 26-28th to do some bike climbing, up Ascutney Mountain and in Okemo Forest, and riding on country roads. My family are coming along and will more or less do their own thing while I ride. We have a 3 BR condo rented. We have  1 BR with 2 beds and the sleeper couch available for cyclists who wamt to join me on my rides.

Transportation: I have rented an SUV, but I don't have a bike rack. I estimate I can take 1-2 cyclists and their bikes. Otherwise you'll have to make your own arrangements to drive up since Amtrak doesn't take unboxed bikes.

Please contact me directly to discuss.

Throw Out Both Tires?

Submitted by RPu on Sun, 07/22/2012 - 7:05am

My bike has Continental Grand Prix tires with about 9000 miles on each tire. I damaged the front tire in such a way that it's been causing repeated flats.

I've decided to throw out the front tire. But should I throw out the rear one as well, so that both tires have the same amount of wear?

Someone told me that the rear tire wears out faster. He suggested that I take my current rear tire and put it in the front, and install the new tire on the rear. That way, both tires will have roughly the same degree of wear.

Does anyone know what kind of surface the Joseph B. Clarke Trail has from Oak Tree Road to Orangeburg -- paved or gravel/crushed rock?

WSJ Article about Cycling and Food

Submitted by JOlson on Sat, 07/21/2012 - 8:07am
In today's (21 July) WSJ there is an article about bicycling and food along the way, specifically about an Iowa cross-state ride called by the acronym "Ragbrai". The article is by Jeannette Neumann and is entitled "Moveable Feast". Thinking about some of our rides and events, it makes you think.... Then again, it makes us look pretty moderate!
