How long should a saddle last?

Submitted by iforst on Mon, 09/23/2013 - 10:06am

Hey folks,

I have a Prologo Kappa Pas (came with my Cannondale CAAD10) with about 8,000-10,000 miles on it. I've noticed my rides getting progressively less comfortable, even relatively short rides (40-50 miles). At first I thought the padding in my shorts had worn down but buying new shorts didn't help. I recently switched to tubless tires, which should be much more comfortable yet stil no relief. Process of elimination says it's either my saddle or me. It's easier to blame the saddle vs. ... well, you know what I meanblush.

Looking for some great NYCC Gear?

Continental 4000S tire failure

Submitted by RMatthews on Sun, 09/22/2013 - 9:43am

I've been riding for almost 50 years and on Continental tires for the last 15 years and have never had a tire fail until a few weeks ago. I was riding up the ramp to the GWB (NJ side) when my front tire expoded. It had light mileage and no damage of any kind. The rim is/was in perfect shape and the tire pressure was between 105-110 psi. The tire is rated to 120.

Tire : Continental 4000S, 23 mm 700C

Rim : Mavic Open Pro

A 2" flap tore away from the kevlar bead causing the inner tube to rupture. Luckily I was going only 5 or 10 mph. A few moments earlier on the downhill before the bridge and I would have likely been seriously injured.

I had to walk the bike across the bridge and to the A train

Hampton Clubhouse thread why is it Locked

Submitted by Sir Roger on Sun, 09/22/2013 - 12:49am

Just when we were all having fun someone locked the thread.. Well I guess thats what would happen in the Hamptons..

I just wanted to correct Cyclist90 and add that if we declared ourselves a church the appropriate diety to worship is Eddy Merckx as any good Velominati knows...

A big thanks to all the ENY volunteers

Youtube channel Bikeman4U.  He has about a dozen videos up now and is doing about six new ones a day.  The downside is that he is not into high end bikes and components.
