Winter Jacket Suggestions

Submitted by JIgnall on Mon, 01/18/2016 - 5:00pm

The cycling bug has hit me earlier than usual this year!

I actually rode today (WHAAAATTTT?!) - For those of you who know me that may be a shocking statement!

I wanted to see if anyone had any recommendations for a cycling jacket in frigid temps.

I get the whole layering thing - I wear two merino wool base layers (so please spare me the preaching :).

I'd love to hear what jackets people use on a day like today.

I searched the message board for this topic but it seems like this hasn't been discussed in years (he ducks!!).

... for the wonderful Port Chester BBQ ride.  Nice group, nice route, nice pace, and terrific BBQ.  And your patience with mechanicals was greatly appreciated.

love the bike train

I took the CalTrain commuter train between San Mateo and San Jose last week. Loads of bike commuters riding the train.

I was impressed with how well organized the bike racks were in the bike car. Bikes were stacked four deep on both sides. Bungee cords were already attached to the rack.

To prevent bikes from being buried under others getting off at a later stop each bike had a yellow tag with the inbound and outbound stops the rider used. So all the Palo Alto bound bikes were stacked together, and all the Sunnyvale bound bikes were in the same stack. Probably 32 bikes could be in one car, with the rider sitting on the upper deck.

Nicely done.

If you're planning on taking the train to a ride, better read this, on Gothamist.

Fun Times On The 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, A, C, D, E, F, L, N, Q, & R Trains This Weekend

It's so complicated, I think I'll stay home.

And what's this about the MTA phasing out the Metrocard, so fares can be paid by cellphone? You have to own a frigging smartphone to take the subway? Bad news.

Anyone ever remove decals from their titanium frame?

I have a new brush titanium frame and I realized I hate the decals. Anyone ever successfully remove them? Is there a solvent I should use?
