Gypsy Piermont Closing Feb 1, 2016 - It is with great sadness we have to announce the Gypsy location at Piermont Bicycle Connection will be closing on February 1st, 2016. We have suddenly, and unexpectedly lost our lease at the store, and so will be ending operations there at the end of this month. We are heartbroken, as we loved...

Ticketing in Prospect Park

Submitted by JFinder on Mon, 01/25/2016 - 1:02pm

I received the following letter from a non-member. The specific question is whether the Prospect Park open/closed hours are posted clearly enough for cyclists to know what they are. Any comments?

I am writing to you because last Saturday night (1/16/2016) I was riding home from dinner in Williamsburg to Ditmas Park where I live. I decided to go through Prospect Park as it is safe than riding in the streets. I ride this stretch often as I work at the Brooklyn Museum, if the weather permits it is my everyday commute.

At the next Manhattan Community Board 8 Transportation Committee meeting  Department of Transportation reps plan to discuss plans for three cross town bike lanes on the upper east side. Please come to this meeting if you can and express support for this important safety development. Now that Citibike is an upper east side feature crosstown bike lanes are more important than ever!

What: Manhattan CB  Transportation Committee meeting

When: Wednesday, February 3 at 6:30 pm

Where: Rockefeller University Castary Auditorium 1230 York Avenue (at 66 St)

Snow Devils Outing - Sat., 1/30

Submitted by nymultisport on Fri, 01/22/2016 - 4:47pm

This week’s outing from Tuxedo, NY will be on Saturday, 1/30.

We’ll enjoy (4) lookouts as we follow the R-D, TMI, and Blue Disk trails, past (and over) Claudius Smith’s Den to lunch at Tri-Trail Corner. Depending on conditions, we may bushwhack to a Triangle trail return. Length 4-1/2 to 5-1/2 miles, depending on route.

Snow conditions are expected to dictate MicroSpikes, etc.

Looking for an early season Sportive / Fondo

Submitted by Sir Roger on Thu, 01/21/2016 - 9:32pm

Anyone know of anything within an hour and half drive. I would like to do an early season AKA before GFNY  sportive/ fondo.

I am aware of the Hell of Hunterdon but that one features a lot of gravel and rough stuff. I don't have the bike (at least the wheels) or desire for that.
