Central Park Precinct Community Council meeting

Submitted by GYang on Wed, 05/11/2016 - 9:01pm

Christy asked me to attend tonight's CP Precinct Community Council meeting to help keep members aware of issues that might be of interest.

A few points came up-

Be aware that tomorrow (Thursday) is the last day of a precinct-wide bicycle enforcement initiative with special attention to: Failing to Yield to Pedestrians and Disobeying a Steady Red Light.

While the Precinct commander and others would not give approval to ride through ride lights and reiterated that all laws must be obeyed, they remarked that cyclists excercizing "due caution" are less likely to be cited. However, egregious infractions and disregarding pedestrians would not be tolerated.

detachable road fender

I need a rear, quick release fender for a frame that is oval.  Many detachable road fenders are made for standard round seat posts. My seat post and frame are carbon fiber and severely oval.  Any suggestions?

Apparently this is Orica GreenEdge's way of overcoming the Giro's organizers ban on on board footage.

Independence Day Weekend in New Paltz, July 2-4, 2016

Join your NYCC friends – or make new ones – on the July 4th weekend at New Paltz. Three great days and two nights of fireworks, sightseeing and perhaps the best cycling in the region for all classes of riders!  Feedback from 2015:

Amazing weekend!!! Organized, great rides that were well led. Camaraderie with awesome people. Have been raving about NYCC since I got back.

Worst things about cyclists in NYC: prepare to really retch!

We don't obey traffic laws. (Drivers don't speed, block intersections, park illegally, go through red lights. Oh, hey, any pedestrians out there who've gone through a red light?)

We don't wear helmets. (Uhh, we aren't required to.)

Bike races cause traffic nightmares. (The article refers to the 1-day-a-year 5-Boro ride. It ain't a race. No mention of the marathon or the many parades on Fifth Ave. that tie up traffic.)

GFNY Road Closure Info For Sunday, May 15th

Submitted by RSchmon on Mon, 05/09/2016 - 1:30pm

Following is information on how to navigate around the closure of Hudson Terrace during the Gran Fondo New York on Sunday, May 15th.  I have received this information from Uli Fluhme—co-organizer of the event.

First, the south sidewalk of the GWB is not affected in any way by the GF—and is open all day to everyone.

However, all of Hudson Terrace is closed to cyclists and vehicles both directions all day from the exit of the GWB to Palisades Avenue.  Also, Henry Hudson Drive (River Road) is closed until 5pm.

To get around the closure of Hudson Terrace:

AFTER 8:00AM, take Bruce Reynolds Blvd to Lemoine Avenue/9W and proceed north.
