Saturday Hike in Harriman - Climbing Diamond Mountain

Submitted by nymultisport on Wed, 02/01/2017 - 10:14pm
The Snow Devils are out again. This Saturday we're climbing Diamond Mountain, a relatively-easy Harriman State Park hike, with Manhattan-skyscraper views from the summit. Route features almost a mile-long walk along cascading Pine Meadow and Stony Brook streams, a rock scramble up the Cascade of Slid, plus a couple of non-technical spots where you'll use your arms as well as legs. Picnic lunch at our private--well, semi-private-- Pine Meadow Lake overlook.

If you've hiked/snowshoed with us in past years, or have some hiking experience as well as winter gear and clothing, we have a couple of car seats open...

Birthdaty greetings

Why do I think today is Morene Bangel's birthday?  I know why - it's because it is!  Happy Birthday Cyclegalnycc.  And for the first time, sorry, Morene is not allowed to come to the Young Members' Meetup.

Hey Morene, today is your day!  You will not hear "no" one time throughout the day - only "yes".  Today you will be correct about every thought you have, no one will disagree, you are right on.  Today you can have that extra  slice of birthday cake and on this day, it won't show up on your waistline.  Today, you are the boss of the peloton, the Queen of the hop.

Happy birthday, Cyclegalnycc.

Inadvertently winding up signed up on two rides

Submitted by GRoss on Mon, 01/30/2017 - 11:54pm

It happens a few times a month that a member will sign onto the wait list for a club ride. Then that person signs onto another ride, presumably his or her second choice just to be sure to be on a club ride that day. So now the member is signed onto one ride but still on the wait list for the first ride.

People drop off of ride one and the wait list shrinks. Our member now moves onto the  ride one listing. But our system does not block that move nor does it remove the person from ride 2.

The reason we don't allow multiple signups the same day is to give more members a chance to get on a ride. The system sends an e-mail to the member warning him/her they are listed on 2 rides.

C-STS?

Will there be a C-STS this year?

Who will be leading?

Thanks!

What you JUST missed on "60 Minutes": cheating in the pro peloton.

Submitted by RRosenthal on Sun, 01/29/2017 - 9:16pm

"60 Minutes" just aired a story on mechanical cheating in the pro peloton. You know, those mini-motors put into the bottom brackets. The center of the story was an enginner in Budapest who developed the motors and was coy about whether or not they have been used in the pro peloton.

All this asserted as being within the Tour de France. On camera: Greg LeMond (who asserts the motors have been used in the Tour), Tyler Hamilton, and the notorioius Dr. Ferrari. Surprise: Lance declined to be interviewed for the story.

Message Board Policy

Dear Club Members,

In an effort to foster a more friendly, welcoming and constructive environment, the Board of Directors voted to restate and actively enforce our long-standing rule against anonymous message board posts.

Hello!  My name is Barbara Gillespie.  I am a new NYCC member, who lives in Bayside in northeast Queens.  Some of you may be aware that NE Queens is blessed with a treasure trove of parks, which encompass 14.6 miles (or 37%) of the 40-mile Bklyn-Queens Greenway. This includes the 5-mile "Kissena-Cunningham Corridor" and a 9.6 mile path from Alley Pond Park to Fort Totten in Bayside.

Anyone have any comment on this unit?  Not interested in the 1000, so spare me any dialogue about it.
