Looking for route from Brooklyn to Patchogue

Submitted by JoyMesser on Thu, 07/13/2017 - 9:56am

Hi! I found an NYCC cue sheet that covers Babylon to Patchogue. Wondering if anyone has any route info for Brooklyn to Babylon. There's always Googlemaps, but I would prefer a route that tried and true.  Thanks!! Joy

Hi,

Be sure to watch to the very end - toward the last, when he's sitting on a bench talking to another man, it fades to black and you think it's finished. Not so! Keep watching the bloopers at the end.

Regarding the GWB moveable barriers

Submitted by NWeissman on Wed, 07/12/2017 - 4:29pm

Since I'd been asked to look at the placement of the moveable barriers on the NJ-side of the GWB, here's what I've been able to determine:

- The barriers are set about 4 feet from the opposing fencing.

- That exceeds the 36" required by ADA Standards (search for "403.5.1").

- So if the deal struck by TA, NJBWC, et al was to maintain ADA access for the seven years of construction, as well as on the permanent facility, then the PA is keeping up its end.

Looking for route from Oyster Bay to Smithtown

Submitted by BHafkin on Tue, 07/11/2017 - 12:55pm

I have a picnic to go to in Smithtown, Long Island and would like to ride there. I can get to Oyster Bay and was wondering if someone could recommend a route from there to Smithtown. I realize I can use a mapping program but I don't know the roads at all. Would prefer something pretty and not heavily trafficked.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Bicycle commuting and air pollution...Study Participants wanted

Submitted by GYang on Tue, 07/11/2017 - 12:14pm

Interesting article on a study being done at Columbia on the air we breath in NYC while bike commuting. It was written by a Richard Schiffman (any relation Hank?)

They are looking for participants to wear various monitors while commuting (click link in article to participate).

different route options for me and partner - looking for inspiration

Submitted by t_mortonhumphreys on Tue, 07/11/2017 - 10:12am

Sadly, the two of us are rarely available for the NYCC organised rides... so need to explore on our own. I am really only familiar with:

- CP loops

- Over the GW, river road, 9w

- The trail up to brewster

Beyond these, what are other low traffic rides accessible from the city? We are happy to jump on a train from GC if needed.

If a map or gpx is available, that would be great!

Thanks all!
