Bike Geometry-VeloNews Fast Talk
I usually don't like the reporters' commentary on these podcasts, but they generally keep quiet on this one.
Removal of posts you don't like is unethical and corrupt
Gil, who has removed postings on the MB he disliked has done it again. He assailed Neile without divulging he is married to Neile's opponent. Then he wrote, "Needless to say I have no intention to work with [Neile] on the board." When he got pilloried for this, he removed his post...then went further to remove others' posts criticizing his remark, patently to remove the pall he cast over his husband's candidacy.
OK, so he caved in response to the outpouring of criticism against him, sanitizing his own record. That's one thing. Removing others' posts that could lead people to vote against his husband is something else.
We have a new National and World Champion in the club! No kidding.
I interrupt our pissiness over the club election for this.... Charlene Yarnall lives in California. She became a member of the NYCC in order to join our rides when she's here. I just got this note from her. Even before you read it, I know, I know: What the hell was she doing riding with a flagging B-rider? I told her not to. It must be my charm....
Her note:
Danny's Cycles Selling some NYC stores to Trek
I received the below email earlier today. It looks like Trek is getting into the direct retail market.
NYCC Election Question
When does voting start? Will we receive ballot instructions via email?
Getting accustomed to the speed of electric bikes is one thing...
But crossing at a crosswalk as a pedestrian this evening, and having one come at me with no lights on is quite another.
Another second or two and at best it would have been a long stay in a hospital.
I still don't have a feel for gauging their speed. Further complicating matters is the assortment of electric one and two wheeled appurtenances on roads, bike lanes and multi-use paths. Some people who denigrated bikes just a few years ago are going to long for those as the good old days.
Climb from boat dock to Alpine courthouse
Does anyone have data for the climb to the Alpine courthouse at the north end of River road? Specifically, distance and elevation gained as well as gradient.
thanks
Elections: Candidate's Statements (REVISED!!!)
Dear Members,
This year we have one contested election, that for PR Director. The Election Statements of the two candidates -- Neile Weissman and Kevin Shapiro -- appear below. But first, so we all know what we're voting for, here's the job description as extracted from the By-Laws:
Brownstone Pancake Kitchen opens in November at Palisades Ave & 9W in old Central Kitchen Englewood Cliffs space
Hopefully it will open early in AM so cyclists can pig out pre ride
Crossing the Hudson before the Mario Cuomo Bridge bike lanes open
Hudson Link busses each can carry 3 bikes and will run from Suffern thru Rockland including Nyack to Tarrytown/White Plains.
It starts Ocober 29.
