Racing at Floyd Bennett Field is in danger!

Submitted by mhsimkin on Sun, 05/12/2019 - 10:20am

There is an issue with the permitting process for using Floyd Bennett Field since the National Parks Services turned the process over to an outside vendor.

There is a petition at change.org, please sign and help.

A coincidence of time and space.

On occasion I remark on the MB about people on my rides: our club really does have some extraordinarily accomplished members (of which I am decidedly not one) and otherwise an interesting collection of people...a real testament to the club.

Patching Tubes

Submitted by CWaaser on Fri, 05/10/2019 - 5:28pm

Question for those of you who patch tubes (is there anyone besides me who still patches tubes?): What's the maximum number of patches on a tube before you throw it out and get a new one? I'm about to put a fourth patch on one tube. Is this overdoing it? Is there a point of dimishing returns? (My tubes are relatively expensive at $9-16/tube, depending on size.)

See the events page https://nycc.org/events/Berkshires2019, sign up and pay for dinner, and also put your name on the main list at the bottom of the page.

It may be possible to take a very few late reservations, but we can't make any promises.

advice for subway (preferably 1/2/3) to metronorth

Submitted by LPress on Fri, 05/10/2019 - 12:13pm

Hello,

Does anyone have advice for a subway connection (preferably the 1/2/3) north of NYC to metronorth? Mostly I'm trying to avoid the ride to my apartment on UWS from either 125th or Grand Cental on the return in afternoon/ evening when there is a lot of traffic.  Early morning I have no problem riding to either station when traffic is low.

Do any of the Bronx subway stops connect to metronorth with maybe a few mellow blocks? I've looked on Google maps but hard to tell.

Also, what would the best route be from 125th street station  to Riverside Drive?

Thank you for any help/ advice

Saddle shopping/trying/lending

Submitted by April on Wed, 05/08/2019 - 5:28pm

I vaguely recall not that long ago someone asked for a list of bike shops offering/allowing saddle tryout. But when I tried to search, it only turn up a few 10 year old threads.

Anyone remember the thread? Or know a more up-to-date list of shops that offers that?
