Staying home & bored?

Submitted by JJacobson on Tue, 04/07/2020 - 7:55pm

"the Red Lotus" a new gripping  mystery novel by Chris Bohjalian is about a couple from  New York who go on a commercial bike tour in Vietnam, get separated and the man disappears.  I could relate to it because on a bike tour in pre-modern China in 1994 a woman and I got lost big time in a giant labyrinth of dirt paths without electricity for about  4 hours including sundown(pre-cell).  Obviously my story had a happier ending.  I was recently in touch with my guide, Linda, and she still remembers me!  The book is available from Amazon.

So we're sticking with Zoom?

Concerns have been raised about the security of the Zoom sharing platform. The NYC board of Ed is dropping it. My work has banned it. Should we switch to another platform? I claim no expertise, I'm just asking.

I've been using Google Hangouts to hang out with friends. I don’t know if it would suit our purposes but it is free. I also use WebEx and Skype at work. I think there’s a free version of Skype but I don’t know if the free version is limited.

How can we support our members who are doctors and, if any, nurses?

Submitted by RRosenthal on Sat, 04/04/2020 - 3:44am

I know very few people in the club. The only (M.D.) doctors who come to mind are Ed Fishkin, Daniel Labovitz, Laura Kent, and Christine Chen. Undoubtedly there are many, many more. Will you who read this please write here any ideas you have how we as a club might  support our members who are, frankly, putting themselves at risk.

"6ft" is not 6ft when you are in motion

at 15mph you will be at the point someone 20ft ahead of you was in 1 second, 40ft in 2 seconds.

bottom line.  if you ride outside, stay back

I can never adequately repay the New York Transit Workers Union for going on strike in April 1 1980, thereby leading me to ride a bike for the first time in my adulthood (except for a 3-week dalliance in 1975 in Los Angeles with Trisha, who was a cyclist and whom I thought I could beguile my way into her heart and, not incidentally, her bed were I to cycle with her).

You are bad for the economy, yes YOU! Here's why.
