Putnam Rail Trail

Submitted by Bethmanhattan@g... on Thu, 06/03/2021 - 9:31pm

Hi there,

Wanted to do the Putnam rail trail from Brewster
to Van Cortland, but heard that there may be construction on the South or North County Rail trail.  Can you tell me if there is any problem with either of these trails?  Thanks for your feedback on this.

ROUTING: POUGHKEEPSIE TO ROSENDALE

Submitted by Ghrad on Wed, 06/02/2021 - 8:01pm

Planning to cycle from Poughkeepsie Rail Station to Rosendale later this month. Via the Hudson Valley Rail Trail (HVRT) to New Paltz and the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail (WVRT) to Rosendale.  It appears as though the HVRT is paved . . . no issue.  However, the WVRT appears to be stonedust.  Hoping to ride my road bicycle with 25 cm tires, I'm concerned.  Has anyone cycled the WVRT on a road bike and if so, how was it?  Can anyone recommend an alternate route via asphalt road to Rosendale to avoid the WVRT if there are potential issues?  Thanks in advance for any input.

Broadway Bridge: Roadway or sidewalk?

Submitted by isaacb on Sat, 05/29/2021 - 7:51pm

From years back, I recall that the Broadway Bridge had grates that could swallow wheels and riders were directed to use the sidewalks. Last week, while soloing up Broadway, I noticed cyclists using the roadway. Has the grate situation improved? Am I misremembering this bridge? Thanks.

The weather forecast is just too grim for riding on Sunday; wet and cold. I have re-listed the ride for Monday the 31st starting at 10:00 AM which as of now is when the rain is supposed to stop.

This is a relatively easy ride to Tappan and back and if the weather turns bad we can shorten the ride at Demarest, cutting the distance from 35 to 25 miles.

I posted a limit of 12 plus the leaders. I hope we have to deal with a larger list!

I wanted to share the below message that was sent to the Club this week. It's great to know we offer valuable resources to the cycling community as a whole.

Hello! I see that the escape NY registration website has been launched, however when I try to click on it it doesnt work. I wonder if it is only me or if it is not yet available for registration.

Thank you,

If anyone has room in their car on the way out there or back. Thanks!

the club seems to have stopped posting past webinars

I would like to access the most recent virtual club event "How to Organize Big Bicycle Events" held on June 11. Under the Events banner if one clicks on past events the most recent event listed is from Sept 2020. Not everyone is available to attend the live events and if possible, it would be great if the events could be archived.
