Last Minute Gimbels SATURDAY, AS IN TOMORROW

Submitted by TBrilliant on Fri, 02/18/2011 - 6:03pm

I just posted this ride, so not sure if it'll be approved in time for tomorrow. But this is what I said:

Saturday, Feb 19
A23+ 60-80 miles
meet: corner of 125th and Madison

My first Gimbels since before the Great Boxing Day Blizzard of 2010. Be there or be square. No maps, no cue sheets...no problem. Just have a good sense of adventure and a good sense of direction.

Central Park - can the lights be timed?

Submitted by GYang on Fri, 02/18/2011 - 3:10pm

Does anyone know if the lights can be timed to lets say an 18 - 20 mph pace?

slower riders may not care if they have to stop periodically when they fail to keep up with the lights.

I am sure someone can figure out the right timing pattern to satisfy as many people as possible.

Thinking of riding Saturday? Watch out!

WIND ADVISORY FOR NEW YORK CITY

Good morning! The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory
which is in effect on Saturday, February 19 from 3:00 AM to 12:00 AM
(midnight). Forecasts predict 25-35 mile per hour (mph) sustained winds
with possible gusts up to 50-60 mph. Potential impacts include: downed
tree limbs causing scattered power outages, loose debris, and difficult
driving conditions.

Accordingly, we recommend everyone: Take special
care when traveling during the day. Avoid areas that may contain
construction and other debris. Be aware of the possibility of falling
tree limbs. Take precautionary steps should there be power outages in
areas with above ground power lines.

Thank you and have a safe holiday weekend!

nyc ticket blitz

http://www.nycticketblitz.com/

my co-worker friend created this website for the cycling ticketing blitz that has been going on. please fill in your ticket info, if you've received one. for some initial data points, i filled in all the tickets that were on this thread (http://www.nycc.org/message-board/look-out-strict-red-light-enforcement-...).

what's great about this site are the statistics. number of tickets, time of day/week, un/fair, sum of fines, and if you were a programming nerd, you can even view the raw data and do your own graphs.

please forward this to your friends who have received tickets. crca, 5bbc, ta, fast and fabulous, major taylor, jbenepe and other bike clubs, please post this on your message board and blogs.

My Close Brush with the Law

Submitted by CWaaser on Thu, 02/17/2011 - 9:10pm

I was riding up to the bridge today, being very cautious on Riverside Drive, but didn't see may police. However as I was climbing Ft. Washington at the hospital, an officer stepped out from between two parked cars midblock right in front of me. He never gave me a look - just casually jaywalked across the street. The only thing that saved us both from injury was the fact that I was climbing...which I do painfully slowly, so I had time to react and miss him.

Pot holes

Submitted by Anonymous on Thu, 02/17/2011 - 1:22pm

With warming weather were all itching to go out and ride. But a word of caution, watch out for pot holes, I have seen several injuries that occurred when the cyclist rode smack into them spilling the cyclist on the road.
