Cycling in Austin?

Submitted by Akennan on Mon, 02/28/2011 - 9:26pm

Hi there,

I'm headed down to Austin for SXSW next week and was hoping to get in some riding while I'm there. Are any fellow club members attending? Or has anyone ridden there and have advice on routes? The Trek rentals from Mellow Johnny's and some of the local club rides look good.

Thanks,

Ariel

NYCC Central Park Petition Online

Submitted by HWoods on Mon, 02/28/2011 - 12:29pm

At this link, you can check out the official NYCC online petition to stop the ticketing blitz of cyclists in Central Park. Now all of our members and friends of cycling can easily add their voice to this fight.

http://www.change.org/petitions/stop-the-ticketing-blitz-of-cyclists-in-...

But the online petition is just one part of a multi-platform strategy to help the Mayor, The DoT, and the NYPD understand that our numbers are large, our voice powerful and our commitment steadfast to preserving and protecting our right to ride recreationally in Central Park and end the tickets.

EMS Bike Clinics

Submitted by jdesmond3rd on Mon, 02/28/2011 - 7:37am

I attended the EMS Flat Clinic 101 this past Saturday. It was an hour well spent.
What was disappointing was that the clinic (for NYCC only) was registered full at 6 people but
only two of us showed up.The other four had not canceled.

Be respectful of fellow riders that would like the opportunity on upcoming weekends.
Send a quick email and cancel if you are registered and can not make it. It does not take that much effort.

I'd like to attend the Bike Maintenance Clinic 101 this weekend, but they are all registered full.
Wonder how many no shows NYCC will have????

Activism opportunity--Ghost bike ride Sunday, March 13

Submitted by EJacobs on Sun, 02/27/2011 - 11:03pm

Hi all, many posts about getting political, and what can we do as a club to develop and project political presence. Here's an opportunity coming up: the annual ghost bike ride to commemorate cyclists and pedestrians killed by cars is on March 13th.

http://ghostbikes.org/node/754

I've done this in past years, and it's sad, but extremely worthwhile, and it would be great to get club folks, preferably in full spandex and club gear, there to remind the DOT, and everyone, really, that it's not bikes (rare, unfortunate exceptions notwithstanding) that kill people, it's cars.
