B SIG Preview Rides: Status in lieu of tomorrow's weather

Submitted by WWright on Fri, 01/20/2012 - 5:24pm

The B17 version of the B SIG Preview Ride listed for tomorrow is being cancelled.  Please note, however, that the B15 version of this ride is still planned as scheduled.

The B15 leaders will post the status of their ride tomorrow morning by 7:30 at the latest.  The B15 leaders have kindly offered to include any B17 riders who want to join them, should we get a ridable day.  Thank you, Linda and Paul.

In short, the B17 SIG Preview Ride leaders are wimps, the B15 leaders, not so much.

If you're hoping to ride the B15 SIG Preview Ride, check back here in the a.m. for the status of the ride.

Thanks,

Wayne

Die Hards 9: Go or Sno Go.

Submitted by HWoods on Fri, 01/20/2012 - 1:26pm

Hey guys,

We're up to 90% chance of snow tonight and tomorrow, so here's the plan: if the weather wienies are wrong, we'll do an impromptu 9W jam to Piermont.

If the snow arrives, we'll go old school. In years past (when winter actually used to happen) we would head down the Greenway in the snow and over the Brooklyn bridge for coffee in the heights and maybe even a lap in Prospect Park. To be safe, you need heavier-tired gear than racing bikes (MTB, CX, Commuter). It's slow, fun, and the trip over the bridge in the snow is beautiful and exhilarating.

Either way, same time (9) same place (Eleanor). And check the MB at 8am for the call.

Local Classic or Vintage bike collector's group?

Submitted by Rich Conroy on Fri, 01/20/2012 - 12:21pm

Does anyone know if there is a vintage/classic bike collector's group in the NYC area?   I've heard one mentioned before, but can't find any info about it anywhere.   If you're aware of  one, I'd appreciate any leads.

Thanks,

Rich

Sorry, forecast is just not favorable. Will try again!

Did anyone get a callback from that ad company doing the photo shoot?

Just curious.  I didn't.  (Good thing I didn't quit the day job.)

Best indoor training gyms/studio

Submitted by Smann on Thu, 01/19/2012 - 6:51pm

What are memmbers experiences as to the best available indoor cycling training health clubs or cycle specific studios in Manhattan, preferably downtown. I am looking for a place/gym/studio that can be joined on a monthly or drop in basis and one that has good cycling equipment not just vanilla stationary bicycles from 1980.

Trainer - for free

Submitted by CWaaser on Thu, 01/19/2012 - 1:13pm

I have an old Performance Axiom variable resistence trainer that I'm no longer using and will give to the first person who wants it. (Email me thru my envelope icon.) The only problem with it is that the handlebar switch that controls the resistence is very stiff going from high resistence to low. (Going from low to high is no problem, and you can manually release it back to low resistence at the flywheel.) Otherwise it's in very good condition...and the price is right. It's perfect for someone who wants to try using a trainer without having to make any investment.
