Necking on Long Island weather call

Submitted by TMcCarthy on Fri, 06/01/2012 - 12:43pm

We appreciate the interest shown in this ride and we want to keep you all informed of our plans considering the adverse weather forecasts. It looks very likely that the region to get clobbered with rain and thundershowers tonight, Friday night. Due to some of the leaders having plans late Sunday afternoon we can't simply move the ride to Sunday. We're weighing options and watching the weather forcasts. This may come down to a weather call early Saturday morning.

We will post an update here tonight after we see what further insights we can draw from the weather forecasts and after the leaders deliberate on options. Later start? Abbreviated ride? Something on Sunday? We don't know at this point but we remain eager to get a great ride in.

Thanks,

Tomorrow's ClimBathon: In the event of or likelihood of rain...

Submitted by RRosenthal on Fri, 06/01/2012 - 11:19am

Tomorrow's weathercast calls for "(S)howers and thundershowers, mainly in the morning." I very seldom ride at all so I sure as hell don't ride in the rain.

Here are two ideas: If, at 8:30AM, Saturday, it is raining or likely to rain during our riding time, I think to wait out the rain and start an abbreviated but very challenging ride at 11AM from the Boathouse...assuming, of course, it is not raining. That would be River Road, Eisenhower, and Speer. Or change the ride to Sunday at 9:15.

Will each of you who is signed up for the ride please write me and let me know your preference. (I note one of you is signed up for Sunday's ride to Long Island; and I don't want to compete with the USTS ride on Sunday, if you think to join it.)

Lunch options in Greenwich/Stamford?

Any suggestions for lunch stops along the Post Road in Greenwich or Stamford? A bit further east would be fine too, but not too far.

Thanks!

Seeking farmers' market destinations for SUMMER!

Submitted by CWood on Thu, 05/31/2012 - 2:02pm

I'm looking for farmers' markets in the region that would make a good destination for a summer outing. Particularly around northern NJ, lower NYS.

Anyone have one to recommend, or can suggest a way to search for them?

I'd like to know where to go by bike.

And also, to go with friends with a car who'd like to picnic and maybe do an easy bike ride nearby.

I know the Blue Hill Farm in Pocantico has an extraordinary cafe and beautiful grounds to explore.

Suggestions appreciated!

A bike ride and small grassroots effort to raise money for the women and their families fighting breast cancer.

In 2012, I have committed myself to raising $14,060 for Sharsheret to honor Tammy Bryk, a beloved client and friend who told me about this fantastic organization supporting young Jewish women and their families who are facing breast cancer.

Through a series of fundraisers, that is how I am going to reach my goal. Please join me for a special bike ride organized with my friend Rod Ciardullo.

Thank you,

Hi everyone!  So today I learned that while riding fast is awesome...crashing while going fast really sucks!

fractured pelvis and body armor

Submitted by NWeissman on Thu, 05/31/2012 - 8:49am

Had a discussion with an NYCC member returning to cycling after a fractured pelvis.  They were by advised another recovering cyclist to wear a double chamois as added protection.  So I thought, why not get serious and recommended a sissixone "sub short":

I own four pair and rotate them.  The manufacturer currently has only men's small in stock, but you could order through your LBS and there are a number of online resellers:
