Feedback on New Badge Layout
Hey folks,
Thanks for all the feedback on the Badges display. We've shrunken the badges a bit so that we can fit 2 across. However, to do that we had to make them rather small. Thoughts/feedback on the new layout? Should we keep this or go back to the larger badges?
Thanks!
NYC Century 100 mile
I'm a riding marshal on the 100 mile route this year (previous years I've done sweep; I decided to change it up this year) starting in Central Park. If anyone is interested in riding along, I'm happy to organize/lead. The caveats are that since I'm a marshal on the 100, I have to stop to help riders on the 100 mile route who require assistance and that this group has to be open to any registered NYC Century rider on the 100 mile route.
100 mile riders depart Central Park between 6AM and 6:30 AM. I expect to leave close to 6AM. I expect to keep at least a 17 mph cruise most of the way; other than the Brooklyn Bridge and the RFK Bridge, it's pretty flat until you get near Van Cortlandt Park (not completely flat, that's the part in the Rockaways).
More ticketing of cyclists this morning
I witnessed 4 cyclists getting ticketed this morning at about 9:00 am. They were stopped just south of the 72nd street transverse on the west drive. I passed very slowly and heard one cyclist saying "we didn't go thru until the green "walk" sign came on". The cop said "you are not a pedestrian and cannot proceed until the red traffic designation turns green".
Seems that there's a lag of a few seconds between the time that the icon of the pedestrian turns green and until the red hand (traffic) turns green.
Technically correct but c'mon.
East End Epic this Sunday
So this morning I see tha the East End Epic has gone from 5 riders with 2 on wait list to 3 riders. The weather forecast looks pretty good: Yes, there is a 30 - 50%% chance of rain Sunday after 3PM. Looking, however, at the details on the NWS forecast shows that the accumulated rain from 2PM to 8PM is .02 inches. 8PM (when we supposed to be on a train) to 2AM is .06 inches. Temperatures in low 80s the whole day.
Bicycling Mag rates NYC "America's Best Bike City"!
(I agree) 2. Chicago 3. Mpls 4 Portland OR--------Babylon LI the "worst"
bike hazard on 9w near nyack hospital, also need help
warning to fellow cyclists, there is one water gutter on south bound 9w just a few miles south of nyack hospital (9w cross with treeline drive) has no cross bars, and is aligned on the same direction of road traffic, placed right on the side of the road, my front wheel was caught in there and I landed on my face, badly injured with stiches and broken teeth. the water gutter can cost life for riders.
Police Justice
Deputy who killed cyclist drifting into the bike lane while distracted by his laptop will NOT face charges because he was answering a work-related email.
Civilians don't get the same break answering their own work-related emails.
"Dirty Dancing" on the banks of the Hudson River
Perhaps you are not going on the NJ Fondo ride September 6th. . . perhaps you are in the mood for a fun and beautiful ride. Jody and Christy have an idea. . . . .We are leading a 96 mile A20 ride from Cold Spring to Kent, Conn and back to Cold Spring. Absolutely beautiful ride, rolling terrain, doesn’t get any prettier.
Afterward, Jody and Christy will enjoy a picnic dinner while attending a free movie, “Dirty Dancing” being shown outdoors on the banks of the Hudson River.

Thanks for a fun night. Absolutely loved the new venue. Beautiful location; I had to force myself to leave.
