Cycle Oregon 2014
I am out in Portland, Oregon and two days away from the start of week-long Cycle Oregon ride. Are there any other NYCC members riding?
Also, congrats to those who did the Yellowstone ride.
Ride Smart
It seems Sig practices are spreading outside the club.
I opened Backroads, a motorcycling magazine, this morning and this is what I found.
Sorry link is not working. Anyway it was a link to a motorcycle safety arcticle called.........you guess it...........RideSMART.
Saturday's ClimBathon moved to Sunday due to forecast 90º temp and PM thunderstorm
Saturday is predicted to reach 90º with afternoon thundershowers or thunder storms (whatever that difference is). Therefore, I'm pushing back the start 24 hours.
Sunday, 9:15, Boathouse.
I hope you can make it and if you can't, I am sorry if I'm screwing up your weekend plans but you must understand, were I to get my bike all gunky, it would be YOUR responsibility to clean it.

Jones Road Option
I tested the theory today that there's a viable alternative to climbing one of the nuts (Walnut, Chestnut, etc.) or Churchill, also avoiding Hudson Terrace. I went down Palisades to Jones Road and headed south. It's a beautiful route...nice homes, not too many cars. However, the turn onto Grandview was 11-12% grade, and the ride through Ft. Lee on Main St. was, well, not loads of fun. I'd personally rather climb Speer and ride on Lemoine Ave. than take this route!
How misleading can a headline be? This misleading: NYCC rejects Boozer
Andrew Madoff
A-Classic graduate and ride leader Andrew Madoff passed away Wednesday.
Our condolences to his friends and family.
------------------
From Time/CNBC:
Andrew Madoff, the last surviving son of jailed financier Bernie Madoff, died Wednesday, his lawyer said. He was 48 and had been suffering from lymphoma, CNBC reports.
A shout out to Englewood Cliffs Police Department for ...
- granting permission to the C-SIG to use their facilities each year
- calling on the Borough to widen the shoulders on Hudson Terrace
- dropping the number of summons issued to cyclists from 108 in 2013 to 35 in 2014
- working with ENY to coordinate alternate routes in case the work on Hudson Terrace runs past 9/20
And, to name names, Chief Cioffi, Deputy Chief McMorrow and Lieutenant Hill.
Thank you all!

Discount Code for the NYC Century (TA Alternative) ?
I got bamboozled into riding this thing on Sunday not knowing that the registration is now 75 dollars - do we have a discount code or sometimes those already registered receive a code to get others to register? Anyone?
2nd Verse, Same as the First... Suggestions for Boulder Co.?
I'm renting a bike in Boulder this Sunday and am looking for recommendations for courses. I'll have at least a few hours to spare, but don't want to eat the whole day. One has to leave time for swimming.
If you've ridden anything out there that you're particularly fond of, I'd love to hear about it. Even moreso if you have a link to RidewithGPS :)
Best,
Ben
