Tucson
Hi folks, I was thinking about taking a week in December and taking my bike to Tucson. The internet says it's an amazing place to ride. Big mountains, great roads, lots of bikers, cool town, etc. the pictures look great and I love the desert. Just curious whether folks who have ridden there think it's a good idea. I don't mind being dropped.
thanks so much.

Jack Smith newly appointed Special Counsel
From NYT:
Mr. Smith will take on the role of special counsel after leaving his current position as a specialist prosecutor based in The Hague investigating war crimes. He will remain in the Netherlands for some time, according to the Justice Department, in order to recover from a recent bicycle accident.
Ride Roster Missing
I have not received a ride roster the last few weeks when leading. The information (phone number, "significant other" contact number) in the roster is really critical if someone from the group gets separated or worse, injured. I have been asking riders whose info I do not already have, to text me their name and contact info before the ride starts. I have already reached out to the webmaster twice.

NYPD bike registration
Isn't there a program where I can register my bike with NYPD? Has anyone used it?
It's not that I expect that they will find my bike if it is stolen, but if you read that article in the NYT about Burlington, VT (see link below). A group of people are standing around a bike and the cop asks, "whose bike is this?" And everyone says...not mine. If someone says it's mine, and I say it's mine...who should the cop believe? Does everyone have their original bike shop receipt? With make, model AND serial number?
I have an Apple AirTag in the saddle bag. Do others use this?

Survey and bike locks to help some students
We are two seniors at the Career and Technical Education Center in Frisco, TX. We are currently enrolled in Engineering Design and Development: an engineering research course, in which students work in teams to design and develop an original solution to a valid open-ended technical problem. Our goal is to design an improved bicycle lock. At the moment, we are researching the correlation between bicycle theft and locks and consumer opinions regarding the topic. To accomplish this goal, we created a 1-3 minute survey asking questions related to bicycle theft and locks.
