Ft Washington Ave above 168 will be closed on the morning of Sunday, 3/5

Submitted by Alice V Easton on Wed, 03/01/2023 - 12:59pm

This Sunday is the annual Washington Heights 5K race, and Fort Washington will be completely closed from about 8am till 11am north of 168th. I think there’s a chance you could walk your bike on the sidewalk, but it might be frustrating. The race starts at 9, so the area will be the most busy from about 8:40 till 9:40.

When looking at the ride listings every week, I ask myself where have all the ride leaders gone?

B-STS Time Trial

Submitted by DrewSado on Fri, 02/24/2023 - 2:32pm

I'm a new member and trying to find the information on the Prospect Park time trial. When I went to the orientation session, I recall having to sign-up for this. I don't see it in the Calendar of rides. When is it? And where exactl do I have to be, who am I meeting with to time me... etc. Would like to know a few more details about what to do as a new member.

Thanks,

Drew

Sad news about Caryl Baron

Submitted by LWintner on Tue, 02/21/2023 - 7:20pm

Caryl Baron, widow of Steve Baron, both past members of NYCC, died last week of surgery complications. If anyone is interested, there will be a memorial gathering for her this coming Saturday afternoon.  Details are pending but I will post them as soon as I get them from Judy Goldberg.

The funeral is tomorrow, Wednesday, 2/22/23, at 2pm.  I believe it's at the Greenwood Cemetery but check with Judy if you wish to attend.

Caryl Was one of the first people I met in this Club and she was warm and welcoming as was her husband, Steve.

RIP Caryl.

Renaming the SIG(s) to honor its creator.

As the SIGs are about to begin and the first anniversary of Christy's death is a month away, I re-post below my note from last June 2nd. Predictably, it received no response from the president or board. I revisit this idea for one last time.

I have an idea to memorialize Christy. I proposed it to club officers April 5th. Like all my ideas for the club…nothing came of it. I propose it to the club body today.

Ride Check-In requirement?

Submitted by George_S on Mon, 02/20/2023 - 7:51pm

Today I received the NYCC newsletter with the announcement of a new format for the Club's website.

Among the "innovations" being contemplated is a feature where riders already listed as attending an upcoming ride will have to "check-in" at some point during the 24-hour period preceding the ride start.

Yes, you know -- in the same fashion where first you go on-line to buy an airplane ticket and even though you're "booked" you then have to go back to the airline's website to obtain your boarding pass during that 24-hour pre-flight period.
