Interested in co-leading or joining B-16 Central Park laps in the mornings?

Submitted by danielapedraza4... on Sun, 03/26/2023 - 11:57pm

Hello! My name is Daniela, I am a NYCC member since 2021, year when I completed the b-17 SIG training. I am interested in organizing and co-leading a weekly B-16 ride in Central Park in the mornings. I have flexibility around the scheduling and can consider the availability of another co-leader or potential riders.

I am roughly thinking:

- Monday, Wednesday or Friday starting at 7 or 7:15 am

- 3 laps or a combination of laps and hill repeats

Ride with GPS

Submitted by mjdanis on Sat, 03/25/2023 - 2:06pm

Hello all,

Trying to figure this out. In my past club if you became a member Ride with GPS was included to have a subscription that goes beyond just seeing the route. You'd be able to engage the app to be a navigator folloing and announcing the turns. Does NYCC offer this free subscription? I have tried to locate information and could not. thanks for answering in advance for those that can provide any information.

All the best,

Matthew

Today's C-SIG ride is POSTPONED to tomorrow, Sunday, morning. Look for an email from your group leader containing details about the start time and location.

The orientation will take place as scheduled TODAY, beginning with a 10:00 check-in at the Cathedral School of St John the Divine (W 111th St and Amsterdam Ave)

Prospect Park East Drive repaving

Submitted by JAzelvandre on Thu, 03/23/2023 - 11:15am

I haven't seen news of this posted here, so I'd thought I'd mention it:

The DOT has begun a repaving of the eastern half of the drive in Prospect Park.  They started on March 13 and it is expected to take 5 weeks.  They are milling and resurfacing in sections, working overnight, so there is likely to be milled sections during the week for the next 4-5 weeks.

STRAVA and Max Heart Rate

Submitted by JAzelvandre on Thu, 03/23/2023 - 10:48am

I've learned something interesting about Strava and max heart rate that may interest any Strava users and data geeks like me:

I've been using strava for 4 or 5 years now, and recently I noticed that my max heart rate, which is the basis for effort calculations in their system (I don't have a Power meter) was set at 190bpm, and hadn't budged.

190bpm is the nominal max hr for a 30 year old, by one standard formula.  I'm 57 years old.

It says on their website that they automatically calculate max hr based on age, but of course one can change it manually.

So --- I wrote them to find out what was going on.

Video Demonstration Of The New Map View Feature On The RWGPS Website

Submitted by RSchmon on Wed, 03/22/2023 - 2:52pm

The "Map View" feature on the RideWithGPS website is brand new having been released about two weeks ago, and the RWGPS team is quite excited about it.  It works for both your free and premium personal accounts, and even more recently, for Club Account libraries.

I focus on our NYCC Ride Library Club Account in this “Map View” demonstration video, but it will also work the same way for your personal accounts.

As for our library, it is made up of hundreds of routes created and submitted by all of you over many years, curated by the librarians, and has no equal as we've discovered looking at many other club account libraries from around the country.  That is because of you, the members.

Hello all, I'm in the process of recovering from multi-level cervical (neck) spine surgery, and was wondering if anyone else has had similar surgery and continued cycling.

I just accidentally withdrew from a ride. I think it would be good if when you withdrawal you get a message "are you sure you want to withdrawal from...."
