Help needed: Bike/Barge trips in Europe.

Submitted by nymultisport on Thu, 01/19/2017 - 10:56am

We're looking to spend a part of May and/or a summer month on a bike/barge tour. With so many operators around, pretty hard to determine a nice route/boat/services. Decent bikes available or ship our Bike Fridays? Any advice is most appreciated.

Thanks, Marilyn and Ken

SPECIAL EARLY EDITION - George's Arctic Rollers, Saturday 1/21

Submitted by BRoss on Wed, 01/18/2017 - 5:11pm

This should show up on the ride listings shortly, but just wanted to give as much notice as possible:

For folks who wanted to join the George's Arctic Rollers ride this Saturday but also wanted to participate in the Women's March On New York, I've listed a Special Early Edition

https://nycc.org/node/81657

Leave Grant's Tomb at 7:00AM (yikes!), head up 9W to the Market and back, home in plenty of time to get downtown and join the throng.

Make America Bike Again!

We have had a strong response from the NYCC community but wanted to ensure we are not missing anyone who would be interested in racing for NYCC or who wants to get faster / explore structured training.

What is the NYCC Race and Development Team?

An outlet to allow NYCC riders to further develop their fitness, speed, and bike handling skills through structured training, group rides and instruction from other riders/racers.  An opportunity for NYCC riders to explore racing for the first time with other like-minded club members. A competitive set of both men's and women's race teams who will be competing in many of the local, regional, as well as national races with the goal of successful results.

Anyone have experience with these rides?  They have a price discount through Thursday.

Would this be permitted on an nycc ride?

Seeing articles touting the vivax assist and various merchants touting it. I'll try to keep my very opinionated thoughts out for the moment.

This is what one merchant is saying:

Submitted by Myles Lewis on Mon, 01/16/2017 - 12:19am

I will be in Miami Beach this week and was wondering if anyone had a suggestion on renting a hybrid for a day to ride through MB including parts of Miami. I guess I can try Spinlister.

Kms or Miles Discuss

Submitted by Sir Roger on Sun, 01/15/2017 - 11:07am

Since all of cyclings monuments, races, etc are measured in Km's who uses Kms instead of miles.

My average day ride is a bit over 60 miles aka 100 Kms.. (Sounds more impressive to my wife..) I have been using Miles on Strava but just spent 2 weeks driving around Andalusia using Kms and it just semed to click.

The only problem I suppose is that elevations will now be calculated in Meters.. and these achievements will seem 2 thirds less impressive. Insert sad face here...

Would be handy if Strava displayed both...

Jan 15 Scarsdale lunch ride CHANGED

Submitted by JFinder on Sat, 01/14/2017 - 6:37pm

Because of the weather, we've made a change.

We'll meet at 10:30am at the Woodlawn #4 station (the end of the line). We think there may be a little freezing overnight, but we expect the roads to be mostly melted by the time we meet at Woodlawn.

If there are any more changes, we'll email all signups by 8 a.m.
