Spare Wheel Needed For Good Cause

Submitted by tompatodonnell on Mon, 07/17/2023 - 9:23pm

A friend from TheaterWorks (https://twusa.org/), a not-for-profit whose mission is to bring theater to young and family audiences in diverse communities,  is putting on a production that requires a bicycle wheel as a prop for an upcoming show. Is anyone willing to donate an unneeded wheel? They are happy to pick it up (within NYC).

Thanks,

Tom

Has anyone stayed/camped at the Samuel F. Pryor III Shawangunk Gateway Campground in nearby Gardiner?

I've stayed at the dorms at least 5 times in previous years.  Looking to do something different this year.

This campground is part of the Minnewaska State Park Preserve.

Being prepared for exceptionally heavy downpours on summer rides

In the past, my take on being on top of the possibility of getting caught in a serious rainstorm has been carrying a rainshell.

I have a number of these shells. But over time, they lose their water repellancy. Add to that they are bulky, making carrying them a burden when you want to travel light.

Rode School Mountain, Wiccopee and Clove Creek trails today. You will need to use the Hubbard Trail go around off lower School Mountain as its water crossing is under water. Otherwise, these trails are in great shape. there was a small amount of erosion on Wiccopee just before it meets the Clove Creek Trail, but you can easily ride around it. This trail complex was well planned and executed; they understood water dynamics. The flat stone drain crossings had water flowing in them, but were not a problem to cross.

Fighting a red light ticket

Submitted by halpernd on Fri, 07/14/2023 - 3:07pm

Hello -  I got a ticket for running a red light yesterday.  Fairly sure I entered the intersection on an amber light but not certain.  From where the officer was standing not sure he could really see the light as he was uptown from the light looking down.  So he could only see the back of the traffic lights.

I would not be as motivated to fight this except for the fact that with the ticket on my record, fines escalate quite high if I get pulled over in the next 18 months.

A friend told me that there are lawyers who handle car traffic offenses for a flat rate.  Has anyone here had any experience with this?

Thanks,

Dave

Garmin 935 altitude reading

Submitted by EODonnell on Thu, 07/13/2023 - 11:02am

My altimieter readings are all off.  I did 4 CP laps.  It said 3,428 ft.  I went online and read tips for fixing this.  It says to wash the back of the 935 with plain water.  I did so.  No change.  Then soak and agitate every 60 seconds for 5 minutes in plain water.  Nothing.  Any suggestions?
