5 day Cycling Camp in Southern California for NYCCers - Feb 12 -16

Submitted by FLeffel on Sun, 11/26/2017 - 12:58pm
For the past  several years I've helped organize a cycling camp in Southern California for NYCCer's, their family and friends. Five days of riding and coaching towards the end of winter, to help get us back in shape for the spring cycling season. The timing is scheduled so that the camp ends a few weeks before the SIG programs begin, so it’s an excellent way to prep for the SIGs, whether as a participant or leader.  I'm soliciting preliminary interest to see if we'll have enough folks to do the trip again this year.

The camp is run by Cycling Camp of San Diego (CCSD).  http://www.ccsd.com.
CCSD is owned by a lovely husband and wife team who are themselves super cyclists and coaches.

Sunday 11/26 - 23rd Annual "Thanksgiving Recovery Walk"

Submitted by nymultisport on Wed, 11/22/2017 - 7:52pm

Several of us are a bit damaged from our 2017 riding, so instead of hiking/climbing Diamond Mountain, we're substituting a walk from the Bronx to Manhattan.

The group will depart promptly at 9:30am from the corner of 149th St and Grand Concourse--#2, 4, or 5 train (take 2-3rd car from the front to the 149th/Grand Concourse stop.) We'll walk to Filtered Coffee (under the 3rd Ave Bridge,) across some of the lower--not south--Bronx, and the Randalls Island Connector to Manhattan.

About 3-5 miles total, with many subway and bus bails. Please contact Marilyn or Ken if you plan to attend.

Wheels

Submitted by DRothschild on Wed, 11/22/2017 - 12:52pm

I’m in the market for wheels. What do people like? Thinking of American Classic Victory 30s or Sprint 350s.  Any opinions? Are the Sprints worth the extra $$?  Other suggestions, especially anything less $$ but equal or almost in quality?  And, is tubeless the way to go these days?o

This month's President's Message - you reply with  what you are thankful for -

President's Message;

Giving bicycle thanks . . . .

It’s that time of year – when we reflect upon our bounty – and give thanks for our riches.  I have lots of good fortune in my life, I have been blessed.  In this venue, my thoughts of thanks are about the New York Cycle Club.

Best place to buy cycling shoes?

Submitted by cbformula on Mon, 11/20/2017 - 6:53pm

Im pretty new to the cycling sport and have recently purchased my first road bike and even did my first century.  But its time I invest in some good quality cycling shoes.

Where in NYC should I go that has a good selection to try on and compare?

Bad news about Jerry Ross

Submitted by RRosenthal on Mon, 11/20/2017 - 12:49am

If there is a rider in the club who is ever considerate and responsible a rider it is Jerry Ross.

Sunday afternoon a pedestrian steps out from between parked cards. Predictably, the cop in the scene starts to write it up as "cyclist hits pedestrian" because, you know, we are always, always, always riding into buses, garbage and other trucks, taxis, cars...and pedestrians. That's just our nature, isn't it...well, according to the police.

Result: Ped is fine. Jerry isn't. Shattered hip socket. Surgery Monday at St. Luke's.
