Photos from the Gala rides

Submitted by JKalish on Sun, 07/17/2011 - 4:07pm

I've just posted some photographs of yesterday's Gala rides on my Facebook account. To see the album, click here. They are from Sakura, and a bit at Nyack, Piermont, and on the road.  Please take a look, tag your friends, and let me know if you have any problems seeing them. Thanks to everyone involved for making it a wonderful and special day - and evening! JK

Hook Mt/Nyack Beach Bikeway

Submitted by EMarks on Sun, 07/17/2011 - 9:57am
Anyone ridden the full length of this trail from Nyack Beach to Haverstraw? Descriptions of the northern section from Rockland Lake to Haverstraw lead me to believe it's do-able on a road bike with cyclocross skills. Agree or disagree?

Bike vacations in Italy or France with a tour group?

Submitted by mvp on Sun, 07/17/2011 - 9:10am

Has anyone done a group cycling trip in Italy or France, recently.  I’ve seen a couple of older posts, but they are a few years old.  Any info, suggestions, recommendations, etc. would be appreciated.

Thanks, Vero

Compelling marketing for a "velomobile" - a $10K fully enclosed three wheel cycle.

Larry & Jeff's/KC

The Larry's & Jeff's Bicycles Plus on Second Ave/87th St. (not the one on Third Ave. at 80th) changed hands.  Does anyone know where the former manager, KC, went?

17 Jul Peekamoose Century - Ride is ON

Submitted by CCollins on Fri, 07/15/2011 - 6:35pm

The current weather forecast for the Peekamoose Century on Sunday is outstanding.   As of this evening, the ride is ON.  We'll make one more weather check Saturday evening and post our call here.

Sunny...somewhat humid....mid-70's to low 80's on the way to the Catskills, mid-70s to low 80's in the mountains, mid-to-high 80's in the valleys and on Minnewaska on the return home.

Nevertheless, it's definitely summer riding weather and hydration and electrolyte maintenance is important.  We'll make three scheduled stops on the road:

Mile 15 (or 22)  @ Mohonk Golf Course Clubhouse (or Stone Ridge) - fluids only

Mile 37  @ Good Stuff Deli - West Shokan (fluids + snacks)

Let's get this party started

Sponsor Robbie Marcus in his ride for Kids with Cancer Camp

Submitted by Rmarcus on Fri, 07/15/2011 - 11:44am

Hi All,

The other day I was introduced to an organization who helps make the lives of children fighting cancer & their families just a bit easier by sending these kids to Summer overnite camp.

Everything from soup to nuts has to be built with each child’s special needs in mind. Buildings,

walkways, ramps, vans,  hospital beds, individual dietary needs, showers, tubs, therapy buildings, medical & nursing and support staff, and an onsite mini hospital (just in case).

I have been blessed with 3 healthy children and after I saw a video of these smiling laughing kids I picked up the phone, tissue in hand and told my wife that this is IT, I will do something.
