Great Connecticut Ride
Kudos to Adrienne for organizing the rides and ultimately getting the bar car on the return train; to all the ride leaders for making it a safe ride this year; to Gary for the pizza; to Karin the banker; and to Morene for handling the raffle...wait, the raffle?...was there a raffle?...what happened to the raffle?
Raffle or not, it was a great ride and a wonderful social gathering. If only the weather had been as forecast, it would have been perfect.
Membership Dues --an alternative view--
NYCC is a wonderful organization and worth multiples of the current dues. The question is not what the club can charge but what should it charge.
I believe the club should be inclusive and price its membership the same to encourage more to join. With more than $45,000 in annual dues and a cash cushion of over $10,000, NYCC can continue fulfilling its wonderful mission. Missing will be increased or new subsidies for events which should be self-funding. Starting to pay volunteers with recognition awards may have unattended consequences. The Board should focus on increasing revenues by growing membership, not raising dues.

Ticketing at Riverside & 117 on Sunday Morning
On Sunday morning , about 11:00 am, I was riding up Riverside and met three women who had just been stopped and ticketed for going through the red light at 116 & Riverside. The officer was in an unmarked car, a black Ford Crown Victoria with "DPL" license plates, I think it was "DPL 8620". After ticketing the women, the officer drove north on Riverside and turned right at the north end of Sakura park.

No Bikes on Subway During Rush Hour?
I heard an announcement for the first time on Friday afternoon at 4:15 on the uptown 4 train at 14th Street.
The conducter, not a prerecorded announcement, stated over the PA system: "Bikes are not allowed on MTA subways during rush hour."
I think this guy just made up this "rule" so his train wouldn't be delayed during a busy afternoon, but has anyone else heard this or heard of any rule changes?
Important Note to Ride Leaders: Use the 'REVISE' button judiciously
