I've done a fair amount of driving on the former, and for the 2 miles from downtown Chappaqua to Seven Bridges Road I think it'd be okay to ride on, though good that it'd be only a short segment of the trip.

What about Hardscrabble Road from Pleasantville instead? Quieter, I'd assume, but it looks like there are some painful grades to contend with.

Has anyone done the NYC Triathlon? If so, do you think it would be good to use 20mm tires. I'm about 150 lbs riding Easton Circuit rims (28mm deep semi-aero). I only ask since Michelin Pro3s are selling $5 cheaper per tire for 20s vs 23s. My concern is that any advantage the 20s might give would be diminished by the condition of the roads on this route. Please give input if you've done this race before....hopefully you reply before the sale ends tonight :)

Getting married in July and am looking to spend my bachelor weekend (in a couple weeks) with some buddies riding through some beautiful roads that aren't too far from the city. We're thinking of the Poconos. 

Can anyone recommend some rides (think A level) and places to stay?

Today I parked my bike on the street, on a street sign in front of a hotel.  I always park my bike on the street, and I try to be coutreous by not blocking driveways, doors, chaining to private property, etc.  So, once I had parked the bike and began walking away, I had 2 hotel staff come out and tell me I couldn't park there.  I told them that this is a street sign on the curb and it's not their property.  Of course they insisted I unlock it and move it or they would move it for me.  I told them if they did that, I would go straight to the police and report the bike stolen.  Finally I ended up moving it just because I didn't want to deal with the headache if they actually followed through and took my bike. 

anybody read the artile in AMNY this morning?  i coundt help but sense a tinge of negativity despite its attempt to bring cycling safety to the forefront. am i the only one?

Tomorrow night—Tuesday—there will be a meeting held at the Orangetown Town Hall about the crash on Route 9W that killed Janet Martinez.

It is expected that the reaction of some people at the meeting will be to ban bicycles from the section of 9W that stretches from Sparkill to Nyack, NY. (I had several people say this to me when I conducted interviews just after her death.)

Other residents will be asking to reduce the speed limit to 30 mph, and reduce or eliminate truck traffic.

The public is invited to attend.

The family and friends of Ms. Martinez asked for the meeting, and will be in attendance. They encourage cyclists to attend so they can make their voices heard, and help make that section of roadway safer.
