Tour De Wilderness - South African Mountain Bike Adventure

Submitted by BBehrins on Tue, 11/13/2012 - 1:44pm

Hi. Has anyone done the 5 day Tour De Wilderness mountain bike safari in South Africa? I am thinking of doing it this summer but would like to ask some questions from any NY alumni.  Below is a link to the event if you are interested. Thanks. Brad

You need to know that in order to be eligible to win the top prize, at tonight's NYCC meeting's raffle, which is a FREE week vacation/cycling holiday for two, at the Stephen Roche Camp, you must be a paid in full member of the NYCC.

See you tonight.

Route suggestions

Submitted by jbeauvais on Tue, 11/13/2012 - 7:09am

I have a weekend conference at the Rye Hilton in Port Chester NY this coming weekend. Girlfriend has the car and I am getting out of work early. So, I thought I would ride. Wondering if anyone had a suggestion as to how to get up there. Google Maps and Strava aren't helping. I dont know that area at all.

Thanks,

Joe

Because of the high chance of rain and oh yeah, the trees blocking the road, tomorrow's ride is cancelled.

It's almost as though a hurricane hit it. Oh, wait, it did.

NYCC Ride Photos for November 12th 2012

Submitted by dianegoodwin on Mon, 11/12/2012 - 6:20pm

Hello All,

I was lucky enought to ride with Michael Samuel this morning to Piermont - and meeting at GWB, we met up with Morene's group of B16 and then at Bunbury's in Piermont later.

I have photos on Facebook. To view: type dianegoodwin after the link to facebook (my profile name).

It was great to see everyone. In addition to Morene's group, we saw Richard Rosenthal on 9W. Ed Fishkin and Terrance arrived at Bunbury's just as we were leaving - always nice to see Ed.

Signing up for NYCC Rides

Submitted by Cyclegalnycc on Mon, 11/12/2012 - 4:10pm

I have found that most club members are considerate of others' time.  However, having lead two rides in the last two days, I found there were no-shows both days.  One member was kind enough to email me during the day, saying he had bad mechanical issues.  The other yesterday simply didn't show, while there was a waiting list all week for the ride.  Today, though the weather was nice, we waitied 15 minutes for two no-shows.  No email, no phone call...just no-shows.  People, PLEASE, if you cannot make the ride, email or text the leader!  It is just plain inconsiderate to keep an entire group waiting for phantom riders.

Helmet Suggestion

Submitted by Lucia on Mon, 11/12/2012 - 12:53pm

Is there a particular brand or type of helmet that works well for someone with a fro, or who otherwise has really big hair?  Or, is there a way you've found to "tie down" the hair (e.g., with a bandana or do rag) to fit a normal helmet?  Serious question!  Thanks!
