Dear NYCC Board

Submitted by Sir Roger on Thu, 07/24/2014 - 9:33pm

A quick question... Has anybody written to or approached the CP Conservancy re the degraded state of the bike lane markings, especially on the lower part of the lower loop.

Its getting to the point that cabs just don't care because the lane markings have been worn away.

Should I write letters or would it be more powerful coming from one of our elected officials.

West Side Greenway Collision

.

I hope the injured person isn't hurt too badly.

NYPD said the cyclist “hit the bus, but was then dragged under the front wheel.”

I'm surprised this doesn't happen more often at this intersection.

Website Assistance: Calling Drupal Experts!

Hey Folks,

It's your (often not so) friendly webmaster. We're exploring upgrading our site to a more current version of the underlying Content Management System (CMS.) Because we have a fair number of customizations (our rides registration system & annual election system are just a few examples) the upgrade will inevitably have some kinks that need to be worked out. While we're at it, we'd also like to modernize the look and feel and make the site more mobile friendly.

This type of a project is no small effort, but if we can harness the power of our 2000+ members, I'm pretty sure we can pull it off with nominal expenditure. To that end, we're looking for assistance in the following areas (ordered by priority)

You Gotta Look Back

Submitted by HSchiffman on Wed, 07/23/2014 - 9:26pm

8 miles out and 8 miles back on the West Side Greenway on the bike this evening.

I just missed tragedy twice. And one more time crossing 10th St.

Both near misses on the bike path were users turning around without looking back. A cyclist and a runner did U turns, within a second or 2 of colliding with me, head on. They did not look back before their turn. After a few near misses, I learned my lesson and now have a policy of looking back 3 times prior to reversing my route, running on the path.

Very funny bit in a potentially not-so-funny article about someone replacing the American flags on the Brooklyn Bridge with bleeched out flags: http://www.nytimes.com/2014/07/23/nyregion/white-flags-mysteriously-appear-atop-the-brooklyn-bridge.html?ref=nyregion&_r=0.

Bike rental recommendations in Vegas

Submitted by stacieu1 on Wed, 07/23/2014 - 11:36am

Has anyone ever rented a bike in Vegas?  I'm staying at the Mirage and would love a good recommendation for a good weekly rental.  Is it even recommended to bike in Vegas in August?  I hear it's HOT HOT HOT this time of year.
