If You're Headed To The Rockaways Today

Submitted by MTownsend on Sun, 08/17/2014 - 6:41am

be prepared to walk your bike across the Gil Hodges Bridge as part of the "Operation Safe Cycle" crackdown.

I was able to get across the bridge to the Rockaways early enough that the officers weren't out yet but by the time I was prepared to head home they were there, stationed on each end of the bridge with walkie-talkies in hand.

You're better off using the Cross Bay Bridge.

All Class: Weather Updates

Submitted by J S on Sat, 08/16/2014 - 9:27pm

FYI, All Class is full speed ahead for tomorrow.  There is a small chance of rain, but it's not substantial enough to change any plans.

I will post early tomorrow AM to confirm.

Did you lose your keys on Haven Avenue this morning (August 16)?  If so, message me with a description, and I'll get them back to you.

SIG Cue Sheets

Submitted by nychef on Fri, 08/15/2014 - 9:52pm

I was looking through the ride library and notice that the A and A-Classic cue sheets have not been updated since 2012.  Any chance of 2013 and 2014 being added?  I think they were some great rides.

Seven Axiom Circa 2002 Replacement Fork Suggestions:

Submitted by Rmarcus on Fri, 08/15/2014 - 6:28pm

Seven Axiom Circa 2002 Replacement Fork Suggestions:
My Wound Up fork carbon seems to be delaminating on one side and so I am replacing it..
The one I have is a Threaded model, but this may be a good time to change to threadless.

Any suggestions for a nice fork that will NOT break the bank as I bought the bike used 4 years ago.

I believe we need the state legislature to put this into effect… a body that could (and perhaps should) be referred to as a Confederacy of Dunces (apologies to Messrs. Swift and Toole)… which means it will be a challenge, to say the least, but a worthwhile challenge.

By the redoubtable Jason Gay:

Robin Williams and Dario Pegoretti: The Comedian and the Bike Builder. A Master Bike Maker Reflects On the Time He Met the Comic Legend

The kicker: "I asked Robin Williams why he loved riding a bicycle so much. I'll always remember his answer, because it was wonderful and true. He said it was the closest you can get to flying."

On a ride earlier this spring down the Putnam Trail from Brewster to NYC, led I believe by Claire Mordas, Jim Zisfein, and Nick Watkins, I met a Club member who had developed a ride which circled into Queens, south to Williamsburg, and then back to Manhattan as an alternative to laps aroiund Central Park. I would like to find out more about this.

If either the woman I spoke with (or anybody else in the Club) has the route for this ride, I would like to find out more about it.

Thanks,

Jim Olson

New York 1 is reporting that the NYPD is kicking off a two-week ticketing blitz today. Not that anyone was running red lights or anything.
