Sobering article in today's WSJ about the tragedy in Michigan
Try to read Jason Gay's article in today's WSJ about the guy who plowed into 9 cyclists in Kalamazoo and managed to kill 5 of them. Gay, who is usually hilariously funny, is respectful in this article as befits the serious nature of the topic.
It's times like this I have the best job in the NYCC!
It’s times like this I have the best job in the New York Cycle Club.
We had the most amazing Newcomers ride this past Sunday. Rides galore, new people all around, veterans of the club. Chris Hartmann – he put together the team that made this day so great. The lunch, the rides, Chris connected all the dots that created a spectacular event. Gabby Warshawer and Cheryl Laiken handled the picnic. Food was great, so much variety, so good! Cheryl, I think she’s been a member of the club something like 1 ½ years – already, she’s the most popular girl in the club. I’m asking her to plan my next birthday party!

Someone registered an account on the messageboard and put a bunch of spammy replies to very old posts

Thank you all, now back to the workday
Rockland Lake State Park -- Cue Sheet Needed
Would greatly appreciate it if someone could point me to a Ride with GPS file or cue sheet that includes a leg that gets you directly from the Runcible Spoon to Rockland Lake State Park and back again, without extra climbing detours.
Thanks very much.

9W Cleanup Sunday June 26
Our first cleanup this year is Sunday June 26. We need approximately 20 people to make the job go easily and quickly.
Most people who participate organize a ride so they wind up at The Market on 9W between noon and 1:00 PM. We give you all the trash bags you need, gloves if you want them and lunch at the Market. We have a map, thanks to John Semel, that breaks up our one-mile stretch of roadway into 10 segments. 2 people can do a segment in less than half an hour.
It's a nice way to show our appreciation of a road we all use, there is a neat sign saying that New York Cycle Club sponsors that bit of road and you get to relax with your friends at The Market.
Routes from NYC to LI - Suggestions?
Hey everyone - Looking to see if anyone has any good suggestions for safe routes from NYC (midtown) to Long Island (Hicksville in particular). Trying to avoid dangerous roads and rougher neighborhoods if possible!
Thanks!

LIRR Montauk Branch Saturday restriction?
Saturday, I was stopped by another cyclist at Penn Station asking what to do about boarding a train to Montauk at 9 something (why she ask me, I have no idea except I also had a bike, but I wasn't taking that line). She showed me some page on her phone that said "No bike before 10am"...
I didn't think there's Saturday restriction on the Montauk line. But I maybe wrong?
Is there a restriction on Saturday travel on the Montauk line?
Thank You Prep Crew for the Newcomer's ride!
well organized and good quality -- that was one of the best lunches the club has put together!
