New SIG Grads: Lead 4 Rides, Get an NYCC Jersey!

Submitted by nycgabby on Mon, 06/12/2017 - 10:27am

The best NYCC incentives deal is back for 2017: If you graduated a SIG this year and lead 4 cue sheet rides before the clock strikes midnight on December 31st, you will be eligible for a free and fabulous NYCC Ride Leader jersey.

Club members usually have to lead 14 cue sheet rides to get one of these jerseys, so don't pass up this oppportunity to put your SIG skills to use and get some great rides in.

Perkins secret vista

Submitted by BG on Sun, 06/11/2017 - 9:13pm

Thanks to the curiosity of Robert Meyer, a previously unexplored road descending from the Perkins summit was discovered. (Maybe rediscovered, but there are possibly hundreds of "perkins" search results pages and I tired of the review after 12.)
Anyway, as you ride around the tower at the summit, the road descends and you bear left before a small island and climb the short incline to get back on the main road for the descent.
If, at the island, you don't turn but continue straight you'll be on a badly worn road that continues down for a bit over 1mi. to a turnaround. Maybe 150 yds. before the end, there is a stunning overlook that yields an amazing vista. The price is a bit over 200 ft. of veritcal to make up.
And it's totally worth it.

iCalender Feed for confirmed rides

Submitted by goldie on Sat, 06/10/2017 - 7:19pm

Am I the only one who finds keeping track of ride schedules a bit cumbersome? Some of the web apps I use (like trello.com) generate iCal feeds, that you just stick into your calendar, and pooof - you have a schedule of items on your phone. Could we do the same with our coolwonderfulsmiley NYCC rides?

Event: Monthly Club Meeting

Date: June 13, 2017

Location: Connolly’s Bar & Restaurant, 121 West 45th St. (3rd fl.) (bet. 6th Ave. & Broadway)

Training for Optimal Performance

As recreational cyclists, we spend a more than a fair amount of time on our bikes, but are we actually training for optimal performance or even improving? Do you know that this year a couple of young, eager and innovative NYCC members have developed the club’s first racing and development team and ……have been remarkably successful?
