LeBron, meet LeMond
James will give every child in this school a bike and a helmet. He is a biking enthusiast for reasons that extend beyond cardiovascular benefit: From James’s earliest childhood days, when he lived in a tiny apartment just up an embankment from Cuyahoga Valley railroad tracks, the bike stood as a symbol of freedom. It allowed him to pedal out of his down-at-the-heels neighborhood and explore a larger world.
Thank You Bob for another well run event !
.
nice turnout on a steamy day.
Is Heat Index for tomorrow's rides a problem??
I was just looking over this heat index chart that Maggie Clarke drew up, https://nycc.org/sites/default/files/files/Heat%20Index%202001.pdf
and I was wondering if any ride leaders are editing their rides for tomorrow. Not only is it supposed to be hot (90+) with heat index values of 100, there is an air quality warning as well.

Best way to Goswick Pavillion for the BBQ
Hi.
I might need to ride by myself to the BBQ. When I map this out via RWGPS, the routing has me using Rockland Road between 9W and Ferdon Ave. Is there a better way?
Thanks

Roommate needed for Natchez Trace bike tour Oct 12 - 21
I've signed up for Black Bear Adventures' Natchez Trace bike tour in 2 months. Previously, I've toured w/ BBA on their spectacular Blue Ridge Parkway tour and loved it. Like the BRP, the Trace is a scenic parkway w/ great vistas and few autos. Think of a 500 mile long River Road!

How does one lap around the Central Park Drive compare with a direct route from Washington Square to Prospect Park?

Escape New York 2018 will be the best one yet
Because it’s the last one.
I’m kidding. I have no knowledge that anyone plans to discontinue ENY.
I have your attention, though. And I have a feeling that we will be saying bye-bye to a contemporaneous thread, so I wanted to share something in a new thread in order to support the mission of the club and its members.
We always have the option of continuing to run ENY in order to generate profit to be donated to charity.
If we want the event to be successful, we need to have an open discussion about how to rescue it. Recent ENY events have barely broke even. People did work hard but attendance has been consistently off since the early 2010s.
