Anyone in Sag, Bridge, East Hampton or Amagansett this week (Aug 27-Sep 3) that wants to ride?
I'm out East (in the Springs part of East Hampton) if anyone is up for a ride. I know the area well and can put together a nice ride in the 25-75 mile range (18-21 avg speed) if there's interest. We would probably start and end somewhere in the East Hampton area. Drop me a line at [email protected] if you're interested.
NJ Grand Fondo ticket available
I have a NJ Grand Fondo ticket available (for Gran Fondo 107 miles route), and won't be able to ride myself. Asking for $100 + $85 transfer fee = $185 (compare to current ticket price of $250+registration fee).
Concerning Reasonable Expectations When Shopping For A New Bike In New York City
After many years of patting myself on the back for managing a 15 mile ride on level ground in perfect weather, I've been amping things up to where I can now ride considerably further. I'm at the point where I suspect that my ancient and very heavy steel road bike might be a hindrance to further efforts (e.g., Bear Mountain). And so, for the first time in over 30 years, I'm shopping for a new bike. I'd like to keep things (well) under $2,000, so I'm open to an aluminum frame and less than state of the art components.
Thursday morning coffee anyone?
This Thursday, August 30, will be my last day of morning laps till March.
I plan to go for coffee after my 4th lap at Le Pain Quotidien in Central Park near Fifth Avenue and 72d Street. It's near the Conservatory Waters and the Alice in Wonderland statue.
I'd love company - it's a lovely spot to relax, enjoy the scenery etc. I hope to see you there.
Climbathon/Richard Rosenthal - AVOID AT ALL COSTS (REASONS BELOW)
As a new member to the NYCC and one looking to potentially sign up for a SIG or even the race team one day, I debated posting anything negative on this forum. Alas, I figured if I can't post a verifiably true recap of a ride then maybe it's not a group I want to be involved in.
Lighting
Riding without front & rear lights thru tunnels & during dawn, dusk or at night is insanity. I have been riding day & night with a small flashing or constant rear red light powered by 2 small & ordinary AAA batteries. I sense that cars and trucks are giving me exra room. Like the rear view mirror on my sunglasses I can't ride without it and am taking it on my overseas trips. The batteries last as much as 20 or 30 biking days or more.
Who’s doing GFNJ from NYCC?
Can you reply here if you’re doing GFNJ? I’m doing it! How do you plan to get there (Morristown, NJ), if you have no car?
Purchase of club apparel
Hello all. Just a quick question . I wanted to purchase a woman's sleeveless jersey as shown on the "home page" of the of the Apparel tab. However, when I click the link to go to the site of the actual seller of the club apparel I do NOT see that perticular item available .. It's puzzling to me . The home page shows the item , the "selling "page does not .. ..Am I missing somenthing?
Thanks in advance for any help ..

Bike crash on the Hudson River Greenway
Letter to be sent to the Parks Department:
About 4:15 pm on Sunday, August 26th, there was a bike crash on the Hudson River Greenway at the southernmost corner of the volleyball courts at would be approximately 160th St. Coming south along the courts the path is straight. But at the southern corner of the last court it squiggles and goes down a grade. The configuration of the path as it emerges from the straight is tricky during 2 way traffic. Riders in both directions turn into each other and you can run off the verge on either side.
Do you own the current NYCC men's vest and jersey?
I have a sizing question. The vests come in a "fitted" cut. The jerseys come in a "relaxed" cut.
I have the jersey in a Large. and I'm thinking of getting the vest.
Would you recommend getting the vest in an XL or 2XL? ie. going up one or two sizes?
