swapping Gala tickets

Submitted by 1936 on Wed, 07/13/2011 - 2:07pm

If you sold/gave/traded your ticket to someone else privately on or off the message board, both the buyer and the seller needs to email [email protected] so we can make the appropriate change on the guest list.  As this party is sold out, you will not be permitted to enter the party if your name is not on the list, not to mention you won't be eligible for the drawing.

At 02:15 mark, check out the man's reaction.

At 03:45 check out the driver's excellent control when back end slides out.

This is mildly related to bicycling in that there is an annual bike race up the same mountain:

Introducing The SILO Ride - July 17th

Submitted by MTownsend on Tue, 07/12/2011 - 8:36pm

SILO stands for "Staten Island Lovers Only".

Lesse & I have been tweaking our SI cue sheet so much and for so long that I swear it's become our own Sagrada Familia.  Anyway, this route is unlike any of the other routes on SI that we've ever lead rides on.  Normally we backload the hills on our routes but this time we've front loaded them.  By the time we make our first stop for fluids we'll have climbed Hillside Avenue, Emerson Drive as well as the famous Stone Street to Trossach to  Sunrise Terrace combination.

spoke breakage / new wheel recommendations

Submitted by MBruckner on Tue, 07/12/2011 - 1:19pm

Hey All,

I snapped a spoke about 9 months ago and then a few weeks ago I broke another. Since then, I've snapped one on just about every ride I've taken since then. Seems like it is time to either (i) get my wheels "re-laced"or (ii) buy new wheels.  I ride a 2008 Fuji Roubaix RC Pro, which is a fine bike but nothing fancy. I'm about 195 and have always had a propensity to break spokes, so I'm looking for something sturdy. I don't race and would prefer affordable to more expensive, even at the cost of some ounces. So Sturdy > Cheap > Lightweight.

Your thoughts are welcome. A friend who races has suggested Shimano Ultegra 6700 wheels.

thanks!

Cycling Group to Push for Shared Paths In Central Park

Submitted by Mojo on Tue, 07/12/2011 - 10:38am

DNA Info, July 12, 2011:

(UPPER WEST SIDE) — The debate over whether cyclists should be allowed to pedal on Central Park's pedestrian paths continues on Tuesday night.

Cycling advocacy group Transportation Alternatives is urging bikers to show up at Community Board 7's transportation committee Tuesday at 7 p.m. to voice support for opening crosstown pedestrian paths to cyclists.

Right now it's illegal for bikers to ride those paths.
