How do I put that little email envelope on the left side of the message board where I am identified as the poster so that people can contact me through the board?

It's there. Look to the left of your post about an inch under your picture, underneath "Points" (if you can see it as it's in black).
Edited to add: I just discovered you can't see it next to your own post.

I JUST discovered there IS an envelope icon there, but ONLY if..
You can see and use it only if you're logged in. This is new information to me. I hadn't seen it previously. It's white on my Mac.
(I wouldn't use caps in the headline but for the apparent absence of an Italics or underline tag: I want you to HEAR me say what I write. I don't know HTML but I gather none of the "Allowed HTML tags" offer that. (No u, no i.) In fact, what do the several ones listed do?)
