Has anyone ridden Route 17 between Newburg and Owego?

NYS Bike 17

"The state has a map of this route--see http://www.nysl.nysed.gov/scandoclinks/ocm53823868.htm or contact the NYS DOT for a copy. I have the map but haven't used it."

I cycled to Ithaca--roads were OK but hilly

"First I went thru Rockland County to Suffern. Then I took 17 only past Tuxedo (Southfields)where I took 17 A & other backroads to Port Jervis--then along the NY side of the river to Hancock (AAA indicates it is a scenic route!!)

If you are starting from NYC, isn't Newburgh a bit out of the way? I am not sure if the main 17 is bike friendly or when it is limited access if bikes are even permitted???? I was en route Chicago (950 miles in 9 days via SW Ontario!!) quite hilly to Ithaca--not 1 hill after Ithaca!!

You might check with NYCC member Wayne Wright who rode solo to Norwich last summer for HS reunion.

You might also get some ideas or things to think about from my article on solo(or small group) long trips in the NYCC Bulletin April, 2006 via ""archives"" on this site. If u can't access it let me know & I will send it to you. Have a safe trip!

Thanks so much, Jay. Trip isn't until next month, so be I may be back in touch....

P.S. I only posted 'Newburg' as a more recognizable, major eastern coordinate.
