My husband and I contacted them for availability, which they have, but they told us we'd have to leave our bikes in the backyard or on the porch. Is this the policy of all the inns? Any problems in past years?

Many NYCCers have stayed at the Sheffield Inn over the years, my wife and I among them. All of us always leave our bikes on the porch and there has never been a problem. I've stayed at other Sheffield B's & B's as well and they all seem to have the same policy, bikes are generally not allowed inside.

Sheffield Inn
I highly recommend the Sheffield Inn. I have stayed there for the last 5 or 6 years and would do so again if I was going up this year. It's very nice, run by very nice people who provide a hot breakfast. It's quiet as its on a side street. The porch is the nicest porch in the area. Bikes are fine out there. Bring a chain lock if you are paranoid. Please send my regards to Florence and Gail.
