Good People

Peak has repeatedly supported park-related fund raising events in Northeast Queens for the past several years. In 2003, 2004 and 2005, I was the race director for the 'Nor'Easter' 5K run/walk held at Crocheron Park in Bayside, which raised funds for several outdoor Big Band/Swing concerts. In 2003, I was in need of a cyclist that could serve as the 'lead biker' for the event - a person that the fastest runners could follow to ensure that they did not get lost. I figured that somebody at a local bike shop might know such a person. So I stopped in to Peak and spoke to Jerry, the owner, to explain what I was looking for. I had never met Jerry before, but found him to be extremely generous and supportive. His girlfriend, Joanie, was there when I stopped in and volunteered on the spot to be the lead biker! Jerry volunteered to donate a raffle prize and goody bag stuffers for the event and to display flyers in his shop to help us to promote the 5K. Joanie did a great job in 2003 and was available to provide similar support in 2004 and 2005. It does not surprise me that they are organizing a fund raiser to help support the effort to bring legal mountain biking trails to Cunningham Park in Northeast Queens. They are good people.
