Betsy Hafkin and I will torture ourselves with a River Road repeat, and you're welcome to join us.

Obviously, if you prefer (and if you have more sense than we do), you can skip the repeat, and do this as part of a ride up Piermont/Nyack, etc.

By the way, has anyone been on River Road in the past couple of days? Is it relatively clean now? I'd hate to have to wash the bike twice in two weeks.

Also, if you're coming from further south, I can meet you a bit earlier somewhere along the west side greenway (I get on near Houston St.).

Please rsvp by post or email, so we'll know to look for you.

I could meet you by the gate (below the hot dog truck). I'm on a red Gary Fisher hybrid, so I'll probably get in 1x to your 2x (I'm a C15). Would 10 am be too late. If so I could try to get there earlier but I'm not much of a morning person.

Dennis,

10am would be a bit late; at least a couple of us need to be back in the city earlier than a 10am start would allow.

You could shorten the commute time to the start point by taking the A train to the GWB.

Bridge stairs

I could make it earlier. Didn't think you would get up and down the stairs to the north walkway that quickly if you were meeting at the bridge at 9:30. I planned on driving my bike to Edgewater. I did the stairs once last year and that was enough for me.

My mistake - I thought you were coming from Manhattan.

I haven't crossed the north path since the south path opened, but I figure it won't take more than 15 min to cross, so if you're near the stairs on the NJ side by 9:50, that should be fine.

Dennis,

I don't have your email, so I'll have to reply on the board - you are definitely welcome to join us, but please understand that we will not slow down from the stated pace, and at times we will be exceeding the stated pace (a few of us are doing SIG training rides, so we're looking to get a good workout). So if you're looking to challenge yourself, come on out and hang on for as long as you can (I've gotten dropped on fast rides, and it only motivates me to get faster).

River road was relatively clean yesterday afternoon. There are some rocks in the road at various points that you need to be mindful of and there are still some big snow mounds on the west side of the road.

Thanks for the update Steve. That snow seems to stick around forever.

sand patches

Hi Joe. There are also a few sand patches in the middle third. They're fairly visible.

What time do you expect to be back in Manhattan?

Oh, what the hell. I'm in anyway. Sounds more fun than work!

9:30am at the NY side (north path) of the GWB it is.

We should be back to the NY side of the GWB by 12:30.

Did it only once and you did drop me, but it was a great morning to be out riding. Only regret was not wearing lighter clothing.

Just picked it up.

It's sweet. Rode it up the green way to 125th St and back home. Feels like I went from a Hyundai to a Porsche!

Good, we'll probably do River Rd again next week, and I'll expect to see you there!

River Road

Mondays and Tuesdays are my days off, so they are always good for a ride. Thursdays and Fridays are good as well so long as I get back early - I work nights. Problem is that because I do work nights I'm not real crazy about early morning starts either. And while the south walkway is closed I'll be driving my bike across and meeting you in NJ.
