"I'm going to have to postpone Sunday's ride until drier conditions prevail.

According to NYCMBA....

""Every trail in the NJ/NY/CT area is going to be unrideable this weekend. The amount of snow we just got followed by temps in the 60's and the melt-off coupled with ground that's not completely unfrozen (deeper down) makes for very soft and sensitive trails. Do the right thing and stick to pavement.""

Ride alternative: Caumsett Park, LI

"Since mtn bike trails are generally closed for ""mud season"", I was thinking about the following alternative:

10:39am LIRR train from Penn Station to Cold Spring Harbor. We would ride to Caumsett (Lloyd Neck), which has improved trails (easy) that we would be able to ride. I've never been there before, but it seems like an interesting place with shore views. Check message board Sunday by 8:30am for go/no go decision. (Depends on interest level)

confirmed

Penn Station LIRR by 10:30am to make the 10:39am train. Expect combination of road and off-trail riding, including visit to a beach.
