650C rims

"Here's a 28-hole 650C Aerohead rim on eBay (you may not want 28-holes - I use 32 on my 650C rims). I've bought from the eBay seller before with good results. It's a ""brick and mortar"" store as well, so you can call and see what else is in stock (orange, for example):

I've bought many rims, spokes, and hubs from wheelbuilder.com. He's got yellow 650C Aeroheads on his web site. What he doesn't have in stock is drop shipped directly from Velocity. It takes just a few days. Send an e-mail with a query:

Saw the yellow 28s

"Thanks Tony. I need to add that I do want 32-hole rims--that's what the hubs are.

I also called Wheelbuilder, very nice but none in stock. Nor Peter White, Bens, CBO. Velocity ain't making the 650s in colors any more--grrrr.

Although I did think about the 28s--really want that yellow! (My new commuter is black--and I want cheery colors. Pink handlebar tape; red leather pedal straps. What else? Could get a yellow saddle, but I want cheap on this bike.)

Will keep trying!"

Velocity USA

"I would try contacting them directly: http://www.velocityusa.com

I've found them very helpful in the past by way of email and talking on the phone."

I agree - they may have old stock

I wrote (e-mail) Velocity to ask about the recommended spoke tension on 650C Aerohead rims, laced with Sapim Laser spokes, and received a reply the next day.

And

And besides being an excellent company, that makes an excellent product and will express a strong interest and desire in wanting to satisfy you as a happy customer (unlike Mavic), they know to whom the've shipped said product. Contacting them should be the most expedient way of sourcing the rims you want.

ditto that

"Open letter from Velocity:

http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=106097

""Hello Brunning,

John Black here, president of Velocity USA. I am glad to hear you are healing up well. I would like the opportunity to clear up a couple of things. First of all, if you or anybody out there reading this has a problem or concern with Velocity, please contact me. My email address is [email protected] or you can call me by dialing 800 453 6126. If you are out of the contiguous US then you'll need to dial 616 243 3400. I am not sure what good it does to spew inacurate statements across the web. If I have a problem with some one's product, I go straight to the source for a remedy, I don't mess with their livelyhood by spreading negative incorrect statements around the world.

Our customer policy is 100% customer satisfaction. In fact, we have never turned down or even argued a warranty claim. Yes, we do get taken advantage at times because of this policy, but most people are honest and have realistic expectations of the product. I would bet big money that a car door will win over a 450 gram rim any day. As for the cracking around the spoke holes, it could have been laced too tight, it could have been subjected to bad roads too often, or there is a possibility that it is a bad rim, but the problem you describe indicates that it is either a classic case of improper spoke tension or rough riding. So even though I'm scolding you, I really do want to keep you as a satisfied Velocity customer. If you send me your hubs that came off your crashed wheels, we'll lace them in to a couple of Aeroheads with precision, love and pride. All at no cost to you. If you stay off the sewer grates and out of the way of car doors, they should perform well for many thousands of miles. Looking forward to your reply.

John""

Try Yellow Jersey in Madison, WI

"They carry Velocity rims in pretty colors. They may have what you're looking for even if it's not listed on their website.

Their numbers:

Thanks for the tips!

"So I've called just about every place. Everyone was very nice and helpful (I'm thinking about moving to Madison, Wisconsin). But no luck with inventory.

When I phoned John Black, I said he'd probably already heard about me from half a dozen bike shops. He said, ""Yellow and orange, right?"" The road to fame is short when you know the right people.

Anyways, John is looking into the container-shipping situation; maybe there's a spark of a chance my heart's desire will be fulfilled.

If it is, I will owe a lot of people brownies. WTH--another excuse for a soiree!

BTW, John said the rims I actually want (and which Trackstar ordered for me) are called Fusions, not Aeroheads."

No take-out!

You want extra butter, sugar, cream, chocolate? Just ask. I provide.

But I do my own cooking!

In terms of Manhattan real estate, my tiny kitchen is worth $50,000 (on paper). In any case, it's a resource and it gets used.

On the boat!

My rims just left Australia on a slow boat yesterday. Can't wait to get that new bike in hand--say in late April!

The brownie contest is a tie. Evan posted John's number first, but I actually got the referral from the Wisconsin store via Mordecai.

So Mordecai and Evan, how do I get you your brownies? Could you please send me a home or work address off-line?

The alternative is a post-work brownie fest that all get invited to. Your choice.
