A person from the bike shop in Piermont said the roads of our route were clear and rideable on Thursday. So we ride. None-the-less, be mindful that all it takes is some frozen snowmelt on a descent to ruin your day.

If you have never descended Tweed to 9W, be informed that they meet at a very steep incline and southbound traffic on 9W will be coming at you quickly from behind a blind bend. We will be hitting this intersection twice.

I had just noted 2 mistakes on the cue sheet in the ride library and have corrected them. The current cue sheet is now correct.

Safest Way (IMHO) to handle that little steep.....

where Tweed intersects 9W: Do a SLOW Zig-Zag. Ride across the top of that little drop off, then turn left heading toward the left side of the road roughly midway down the hill. Then turn right heading down the rest of the hill in a south bound direction. By doing this, you end up rolling into 9W heading south directly off the hill, so any momentum built up simply ends up moving you along a little quicker down 9W. Executed correctly, there should be no issue at all with running into traffic. The last maneuver should put you directly onto the shoulder portion of the road smoothly. (Of course, this is all assuming that you guys are heading south when you come down off Tweed. If not, I hope someone makes use of this for some future ride)! :^)

Ron, I do just that. But there is always the possibility of a car quickly turning off 9W onto Tweed into the left lane where you are. At least this time of year there is no foliage.

It's really steep

And short and awkward. I skidded in sand near 9W and nearly met my maker. Now I get off and walk. Not worth dying for.

Hey Phil,

I bet the temperature reading was not off the device.

But rather from some station with central heating. We didn't see temperatures above 40 F till on 9W on the return.

Central Park

Those readings were from C.P. They bore no relation to the fairly chilly temps we saw today on the ride.

I will consider the Garmin when it has a beer bottle opener....

Until then, I will rely on your data...

BPM

The scary thing about Ron's data was his average HR. I think mine must have been 175 for most of the ride and then unrecordable on the ride downtown with Hank.

heart rate

Ron's heart rate is usually high. This number shows how easy he rode on Saturday.
