Just a quick note from your club bulletin editor. It seems weird to me to capitalize the title, so I won't.

This month's issue will be delayed due only to my moving from the wonderful borough of Manhattan this past week to the more manageable borough of Brooklyn.

For those waiting by their mailboxes in anticipation: the March issue will be mailed the 6th of the month, a Tuesday. For the rest of us: peep the website homepage for up-to-date information and timely announcements. The trees will thank you for it.

Cheers,
Kevin

"Moving to Brooklyn!?! Make sure you have your passport and visa, your shots and extra ""bribe"" money.

:-)

Good luck with the move.

It's about 6.5 - 7 miles from the Brooklyn side of the BB to the boathouse. A nice little warm-up.

I'm in Carroll Gardens. 2 miles to Prospect Park. How about you?

Ha. We're in Clinton Hill.
A straight shot down Vanderbilt to Prospect Park, which I've developed a fondness for over the past year. Olmsted preferred PP to CP (he and Vaux co-designed both). For cycling, I can't say I disagree.

PP loops are too short and the hill isnt worth shifting for.

Precisely why you might take the hill at 24mph.

3.35 miles. It's a loop. CP is 6. WTF! It's riding.

The CP lower loop is just under two miles, 6 times around it comes out to just a hair over 10 miles. Nice and flat for the speedy gonzales in you.

The glorious and beautiful Prospect Park

"Welcome to the most ""livable"" borough in the City and its most beautiful park. It's true Olmstead and Vaux considered Prospect and not Central, their masterpiece. Having lived in Brooklyn since 1975, (I now live in Kensington - Beverly Rd. off Ocean Pkwy), I have enjoyed the beauty and comfort of this park immeasurably, as I have trained for and completed 23 marathons from 1978-1999, doing loops of this glorious 3.35 oval (and have never been bored). During the past 8 years, I have joined the wonderful and fast cyclists who circle this loop almost evey day during the week. As compared with the overcrowded hoards of weaving rollerbladers, cellphone possesed pedestrians and just too many people using Central Park, etc., Prospect gives you: space, a safer cycling venue to go fast (without endangering your life and others), a park where you can personally get to know other riders and a level of unrivaled calm that the ""big park"" in Manhattan doesn't afford you. I know I'll catch hell for this, from the ""Manhattancentrics"", but welcome, once again, to Brooklyn, I look forward to seeing you in the park. I'll be the guy on the red & black Serotta, breathing hard as I happily push up the hill."

Cheers, Eden. I concur. This early in the season, I'll be on a primer grey (2003) Pista, also huffing and puffing up the 'hill' forcing myself into some semblance of shape.

If/when that happens, I'll be riding a red, lugged steel 1986 Somec. See you on the loop.
